We'll trust a 19 year old with a tranporer carrying THAAD missiles to Korea, but dam if we don't entrust the kid with a 5000 dollar used up tractor that is Kept together is enough.

Yes it is normally enough for most people to be able to pas the CDL test. It is not nearly enough to be a safe professional driver.....that takes continued training after you get to work and constant desire to better yourself.
Based on what I see from most drivers out there, some people NEVER get it.....even if they do have their license. -

Now a serious response. When I first learned to fly the average student could solo an aircraft after 8 hours. My dad soloed in 1.5 hours. It took me 13. The amount of time it takes to solo is not the standard at which someone will end up. I have had far more experience then my father now. But he just took to quicker.
Learning to drive a truck was difficult for me. I hit many a sign, light pole, electrical pole, tree, and other things before I got the hang of it. And that was going forward. Backing, I did my fair share of damage also.
You very well can learn to pass the driving test for you CDL in 10 hours. But learning to operated a Commercial Vehicle in a professional matter will take a lifetime. As slipping up, even a little bit, can do a great deal of damage and could get someone killed. -
