Sure they are. I am located 6 miles from I-75 in Michigan and hear truckers on channel 19 everyday. Several channels populated by cb base stations in various cities around me in all directions. Not as densely as in the 1970's and 80's but still active.

Yes on the foul mouths on cb. Always had them. At least they have been there since I started using cb in the early 70's. Before the cb boom. Yes on the decline of useage also. But they are still used. I still get good traffic reports especially during bad weather. Still get directions from time to time. And still have decent conversations with many operators.

I was talking to a grain hauler and a flatbed hauling sod to Pittsburgh on my way home today. I had to talk the flatbed driver out of going around the north side of the Washington Beltway at 5:00 pm, just in time for it to become the world's largest parking lot.

One of the most useful tools a trucker could have is a CB. Nowadays, unfortunately, most guys don't have one or use it to troll on. Passing thru Albuquerque and a guy was blasting porn across the cb. Had to listen to moans for 45 min or so...... But when used as it's supposed to be you can get a heads up about everything ahead. It's saved me a bunch of time getting wind of an accident ahead so I can take an alternate route to avoid the back up

Most companies that a driver will make deliveries or to get their loads are required to call in on a CB. Poland Water is one such company. The driver pulls up to a entry gate and is told what channel to que. Call in the load #, your bill of lading, fender or truck license #. The company will tell you what door to get on. It saves time at the bottling plant.

    Yes they still use it.

Last time I properly used my Uniden PC76xl was bringing about 40 truckers out of the Cabbage eastbound in a proper winterstorm.. moving along passing the word to the whole convoy until about Odgen where I gave it to number two to carry on so I can get a nap.

    Now?

BEBE!! WAANAA COMPANY!? LONG TIME BAMABMA.,..

    no thanks.

Solo Cup in Federalsburg. I'm probably the only LTL guy that goes there and calls them on the radio. It saves me an extra trip inside. :)
