    Welcome to the dark side.

Before you start hearing how this is a horrible time of year to make the change I'll say this.

Disadvantage: Well it's cold out and a heck neck of a time to throw tarps.

Advantage; it's cold out so ALL the fair weather flatbedders run to FL and pull UPS

No really, it is winter so you two will have to redouble your efforts. But with so many running UPS there is a lot of freight to go around still. STUDY the board. All the lanes are different in flats. Also there are not as many loads on the flat board so you have to learn how to make your position work for you. Take loads with a little extra time. If hubby has never done flat before he will need more time to tie down loads and tarp. Don't try grabbing a 500 mile load that needs to meet the rigger at 7am. Not that he won't be able to do it but he will wear himself out fast. Give some time to learn.

I hope things continue to improve for you both. I started hear 2 years ago this Thursday although I didn't pull my first load till new years (easier tax wise). You two will do fine.

He is getting Carhartts for Christmas.

I've been studying the board all year. Because *I* knew this day was coming. And until he gets more comfortable, I'll make sure he has enough time. But the average daily rate should increase, without anywhere near as many miles. His official start date with Mercer was Jan 19 of this year.

Yes his rate will increase. For now I would offset that increase in rate with the increase in time allotted. But only for a couple of weeks. After that everything he does will get faster. I know for me I purposely started taking tarp loads for a bit in the spring of '15 just so I could faster at trapping. Then I realized that there was little if any difference in pay between tarp and no tarp loads (not counting 8' tarp) and went back to no tarp loads.

@Razorwyr made the switch from van as I recall. He might have some tips besides just learning to slow down and enjoy life.

How in the heck did you manage to do that? Well what's done is done. You can try a pipe wrench but probably gonna have to buy one of those cutting sockets and beat it on with a hammer.

Heat. Anytime bolt doesnt want to come free due to corrosion, apply heat. Get it cherry red then put your wrench on. And use 6 point wrenches and sockets. 12 point sockets on 6 point bolts causes them to slip and round off.

Edit to add. Now that its rounded try heating it up and getting some good visegrips locked on it.
