so yesterday I had my first screw up. To avoid a head on collision with a small car I went in to the ditch and ultimately got stuck. I had to be towed out but there is no damage on the trailer and only minor cosmetic damage on the back of the sleeper. I called the police but the officer was less than helpful and declined to take my statement (written or verbal) and "might" get around to doing a police report next week. My company says this was a preventable accident and I was at fault. They said I should of slowed down (which I already was hence why I just got stuck and didn't roll it) and let the person hit me. So now I'm worried for my job and my future in the trucking industry if it goes on my DAC report. I've only been solo for about theee weeks. Any advice would be great.

    Ooops Thanks this.

Your company told you to let the person hit you??? Who do you drive for and do you have forward facing camera's?

I don't have cameras on my truck unfortunately. I would rather not say company name until everything is settled. They are being extremely critical of me though. It sucks a lot.

Yes best thing is to hold your lane and allow the person to crash into you. Next best thing is favor over to the side of the road as much as possible and let them hit down your driver side, making sure you don't leave the road all the way such that you flip over or get stuck. Definitely trade paint to prove the incident.

If they fire you, just leave gracefully. Several companies will hire you and be glad to have you onboard. Keep us posted.

Yes and there wasn't a shoulder for me to go to to try to get out of the way.

Write everything down as it happens and is said while it is still fresh in your mind. Point out calmly that the dents on the truck is better then hitting that vehicle and someone getting hurt or dying. Are you talking to safety or weekend dispatch?

I've discussed it with safety and my regular fleet manager. I was told to go ahead with my route and go on my already scheduled hometime and we would discuss what happens next on Monday.
