No more having to switch between tabs? Think this is for ppl with more then 1 truck. More use friendly and new design. We will need to make new accounts to login with on the new one. Which will be emailed how too

Hello Mercertown! I have been lurking here for a couple of months. I have read through both the Why Some Fail @ Mercer thread as well as all of this thread.

I kind of did it backwards, I found this thread through an internet search. It started at about page 753. I read through to ~1976 and then went back to page one. It was interesting to wait for and finally see the usual characters come on the scene. It was like watching a prequel to a movie and seeing how the characters developed.

Anyway, I hope to come to Mercer in March of next year. Like CJ, I am retired Navy. I also double majored in Finance and Economics in 2015. I say that just to point out that although I had a fair understanding of business in a theoretical sense, going through this thread has taught me so much from each of you in a practical sense.

I specifically would like to thank Mtoo, Roshea, SkateboardMan, Flightline, Spyder, CJ, Rayzor, and TruckerPete among others for all of their effort and experiences.I know some of these guys are no longer on here.

    Rich.

Just curious, I know that I am not with Mercer and I do not want to jack your thread, but I created a document that summarizes what I have learned from all of you here. A common thing that I have seen repeatedly throughout this thread is people asking questions to things that have already been covered in this thread. I know that it is frustrating for people to continue to repeat advice that they have already given time and again. It is also frustrating from my standpoint, knowing that I have dedicated the time to read all of this and learn and they just want it handed to them. It seems to me that if people are not willing to research to find the information to make their business successful, then they will probably not be successful anyway because they just want everything given to them.

Anyway, I was curious what the consensus would be about me posting what I have already done for my own benefit so that it could be added to or corrected by others here, and then when someone asks a question, they could just be directed to search for the word nugget or something like that that would be placed in the post and they would see all of the compiled information. I envisioned that each person would reply to the last person that updated the information. The only problem I foresee is I do not know how long a post can be. As you can see, I am long winded. The document is six pages long. I am willing to share it with anyone that would like to see what I have compiled if anyone is interested.

@Richp89 I would love to see the document, but as you know I am just an old retired hand that throws historical facts out there. Lets see what the younger tech savvy guys that are living the Mercer life "here and now" have to say.

@Richp89 sounds like a great idea to me. Any info is good info and if we could direct ppl to a 6 page thread instead of reading 2000 pages it could do nothing but help everyone.

Don't feel bad, I'm headed to pick up a load we do every 14 days and they messed it up. Seriously we do 150 of these a year, fir5 the last 5 years that i know of, maybe longer, and they still managed to mess up the permit. I should of paid more attention to it when it was emailed Friday but didn't. Figured by now they could get them right. I should probably cut them some slack, no one's perfect.

All that safe driver knowledge means jack when it comes to owning a truck. When you buy a truck you stop being a truck driver and become a business owner.

Dude you are lying to yourself. It's only holding you back. If quality is the stepping stone you got to use, then use it and make it work. But stop bsing yourself with sales lines like building business credit. First, quality won't even report to the credit bureaus so it won't help your credit. Second, even if they did it isn't going to help you. You are a one truck one employee business, not pepsico or gmc. Your personal credit history is going to be the deciding factor when you need to get a loan to buy a truck or trailer.

For us 1 truck owner operators building business credit is nothing but a sales pitch from shady attorneys over charging you to file incorporation papers. And shady salesmen trying to get you to justify their bad lease purchase deal.

The ones that do well don't fool with ups. A&E is where the money is at for a team.
