If you like to fish, you'll love living on the Gulf Coast.
Texas is good as far as heat or humidity. Louisana is rough becaue of so much swampland; the mosquitos are like attack helicopters swarming you.
You'll be content in Texas plus no personal income taxes.

I've made many deliveries there during the summer, to several chemical plants and was ok with it.

If you pick Houston, check out Andrews Logistics in Deer Park. They haul a lot of lubricants out of Shell in Galena Park. Usually within a 1000 miles of Houston and right back empty. Lots of day trips up to DFW, and out to Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, and West Texas. They also haul chemicals. Plenty of work without living out of a truck.

Got my start doing tanker work with them out in Southern California. Wasn't the greatest as far as pay, but the experience gained was well worth it. We did all kinds of oil/lubricants and chemicals both local and trips up the Pacific Northwest.

That seems like a good job; deadhead back empty from each delivery. I did that in tankers and never even one time had a backhaul. Pays the same to the driver, empty or loaded. Loved those long runs; drive 2000 miles loaded, 45 min. to unload, then 2000 miles back to the terminal empty. All that milage is figured into the billing and the customer pays for it and knows he pays for it and doesn't care as long as his product isn't contaminated.

Anybody here knows how the CDL transfer works in Texas? I would be transferring from Mass to Texas. I tried calling the Texas DMV but no luck.

Its simple. Provide proof of residence. Retake the written tests. Done

One post on here had "you must register your personal vehicle in Texas" also. Seems odd; never heard that before.

In Tx you just show them your CDL and they transfer everything but Hazmat. You will have to do the whole Hazmat thing again-written test, fingerprinting and backgraound check. You do have to register your personal vehicle with proof of insurance before you change your license. I told them that I sold my car before I moved and would buy one later and they said ok.

And I just renewed my hazmat and twic card.. To have to start all over . But that's ok. As long as I don't have to re do my whole license again. I'm fine with that. I wonder if someone would employ me with my Mass license and then tranfer it later to Texas. Before the dead line ofcourse.
