####. I was just in Phoenix on vacation. It only takes a few minutes to learn and you'll be comfortable with it in a few weeks.
Anyone in Phoenix help with doubles?

If you work at Sysco can't you just have one of your shuttle drivers show you how to hook a set up? For me I just started doing it. Nobody really taught me.
If you watch the videos you'll get the gist. If you work for Estes or whoever they will give you guidelines and training there not going to just let someone off the street just go do it without having a driver trainer or manager sign off first. You'll be okay.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
I haven't been out west since 2002. Same boat as Tom Cat.
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -

My so called "training" lasted one shift while I took a day of leave. I am a ex military flatbed driver here. I was shown literally one hook and one break. I was still active duty and had to wait two additional months before the military released me and I could do my civilian job. Then I had to rely on the "training" I received two months prior. Hooking and breaking took me three times longer than now. One more reason why I am rewriting my LVC guide

Don't psyche yourself out. It's not hard.
When you hook dolly to tractor ALWAYS use safety chains. Go slow. Dollies are easy to sling around behind your tractor on turns.
Trawl around, find your rear (light weight) trailer. Back the dolly up square to the trailer. Do not push it under the trailer. Park it just in front. Hop out and unhook the dolly from your pintle hook and undo safety chains. Set dolly brakes or chock a wheel.
Go find lead (heavy) trailer. Hook as normal but check to be sure pass thru valves on the rear of trailer are closed and holding air. Back this trailer square as you can on your dolly. Set brakes, hop out, hook dolly to pintle hook on rear of lead trailer. Connect your air lines and safety chains. Once connected, release dolly hand brake or remove your chock. Check your dolly 5th wheel height with your rear trailer. Crank rear trailer up/down as needed.
Hop in cab and allow a little extra time for your dolly to air up once you push in trailer air. Back entire shebang (lead trailer and dolly) until you hook the kingpin of the rear trailer. Tug test!!! Every time. Then go back and eyeball your connection to make sure that pin is locked in. Connect airlines from dolly to rear trailer.
Hit your trailer air supply and flashers then take a walk around your whole rig. Check for leaking air valves. Especially from the back end of your rear trailer. Check all your lights and PTI as usual.
That's it. No biggie. -
^^^^^ #####, @miss elvee .... awesome advice~!! It brought ME back to '03 when I did my year with FedEx/Linehaul.... Amazing how it came back to YOU so quick! Ah... younger brains work quicker, LoL. I'm so stuck on hoses, valves, couplings, PTO/CLUTCH ..... I just couldn't recollect it in my mind, yet I could do it again in a moment, if necessary.
BEST advice ^^^^ ~!miss elvee and Mike2633 Thank this. -
Yeah definitely great advice everyone thank you! From ready everything tou guys put it sounds really easy and I feel like I could do it no problem.
Still no luck though with anyone showing me in person, so do you guys think I should go and try to do this at ups to try and get the job or no without doing it first and driving doubles first???miss elvee and G13Tomcat Thank this. -
here's EXACTLY where I learned, ten years prior to this video. TAKE HEED all you've heard here, and KNOW YOUR #### when it comes to pintles, kings, tandems, (study that for doubles!), airhoses, etc etc etc...
I really think if you know your stuff around a tractor and a '53 it will fall in place for you. I did it in '03 . . . . like I knew wth i was doing.
If you TOTALLY know your pretrips and what's really going on with ANY t/t ..... I believe you'll get it rather quick. Listen to @miss elvee .... a LOT of info there, as well as the REST of the guys. Many of us were thrown to the wolves.
As I stated, I could go do it again tomorrow, but ... out of sight out of mind. I can do it, but not explain it.
Best wishes, man. Watch that vid, that's the people that I learned from IN A DAY.... ie: date of hire. Know the tractor, and all you can prior. Know your #### about ANY T/T ... and yep, I think you'll be fine. UPS is a GREAT place to get into.
Keep us posted~!!miss elvee, Mike2633 and trecord88 Thank this.
