People don't like to admit their weaknesses, thanking my post would be admitting they agree with my assessment publicly. I'm sure many who read it would agree but could never bring themselves to hit the Thank button.

Well, c'mon they have some to do with safety. Most drivers would never look under the hood or replace a burnt out light if there were no consequences.

Well my rig's a little old,
But that don't mean she's slow.
There's a flame from her stack,
And the smoke's rolling black as coal.

So the reason is that we are all "weak".
Thanks for clearing that up for us.

Do you disagree that people are loathe to admit their weaknesses? Alcoholics often don't admit it til they get counceling and join AA before they ever admit being alcohoic for example.

I set my cruise a few mph above the speedlimit (below 70mph) because that means less time I have to live in the truck.

100,000 miles per year at 50mph overall average = 2000 hours of driving
at 55mph overall average = 1818 hours of driving. Thats an extra 182 hours of my life I get back.

EZ Money and scottied67 Thank this.

I used to think like you, my commute was the part of my life I hated. I raced to get home so I could start enjoying my time on top of this planet. I worked hard and looked forward to that day when I could retire and begin to enjoy my time on top of this planet.

Every minute we are breathing is our life. We have to enjoy every moment of our life, work or play. When I see someone speeding along I see someone who does not enjoy their time on top of this planet at that moment. How could they? They are increasing the risk of a major crash by driving outside the laws laid down to protect us all. These are people obsessed with racing to that happy place in their life all the while missing out on the fact that they are currently breathing and should be in their happy place at all breathing moments.

Before this gets ugly, let's all agree that none of us is perfect? I'll put myself first in line on that one.

Hopefully, despite the fact that we all disagree to different degrees for different reasons, at least we're all on the same page regarding safety, and have a clear regard for the motoring public? Because agree or not, like it or not, we as professional drivers bear the greater share of responsibility for safety when we're on the road, for ourselves and those around us, whether other truckers or POVs.
So whether we tend to be speeders or some other stretching of the law (again, not singling out or pointing fingers), I hope we're keeping that in mind, and not falling into the all too common "me first, scr*w the next guy if he doesn't know how to drive, I'm busy makin' money" or "it's my right" or "truckers vs four wheelers" mentalities, or any other variation beyond these.

While we're all making a living at this, we have to remember that driving is still a privilege that can be taken away, and enough abuse of any number of actions on the road can lead to further restrictions for everyone else.

Stay safe everyone, and watch out for each other.
