First post, but it won't be the last. For a variety of reasons I am going to earn a CDL-A and want / need to basically go back and forth from WI to FL. I don't need (though it would be cool) to do it in one trip, but I would want to be headed each way in the general direction described.
Are their any companies that service those areas generally? I know all the big ones go to all 48, but all the recruiters I talk to say that I have to be willing be going to all 48. I am not interested in that at all.
Perhaps I should go the o/o route and lease to a company where I can plan my own trips. I would prefer at this "stage" of my career to not do that but if it is the only way to pull this off then that is what I will do. I have the financial resources to pull this off if I must..
I am in the middle of driving back to Wisconsin now. I have seen hundreds of trucks all saying "we are the best" or "we pay the most", etc. If there is such a shortage of drivers, why wouldn't a company try to fit someone's otr destination needs?
I don't need "home" time per se. The purpose is to allow me to look in after my dad on a regular basis, and also see my wife on the other end. My dad is in Florida, and my wife refuses to leave Wisconsin.
If I can find a company that will work with me, great. If not I guess I have to do it myself. I will be making a decision shortly to get started, this month hopefully.
All comments appreciated, thanks.

Don't buy a truck yet, the insurance will be too expensive and with no experience yet, you'll run into all types of problems.

For now, get a regional job with a refrigerated carrier since you want Florida runs. Lots of those jobs out there for new cdl grads.
Wil-Trans stays on the eastern half of the USA.
Roehl Transport may have something like that in their refrigerated division.
Millis Transfer is dry van and stays in eastern USA, but not sure if they run Florida; call and ask.
Roehl and Millis have their own cdl school in WI
Wil-Trans school is in MO
