No K-rations. Did have the cigarette ration card which I think was 2 cartons per payday and maybe a dollar or two per carton. I smoked more than 2 cartons per payday but had friends that gave me their ration card. This way could keep my fix of at least 3 packs a day. I returned the favor by letting them sneak off the ship for some beer and women.
My father said the same about REMF & Red Cross workers keeping the good stuff when he was hospitalized in Italy. Lucky Strike were like gold, but the REMF & Red Cross workers always had plenty. He was a tanker in North Africa against Rommel.
Some K-rations cigarettes in Vietnam were left over stuff from WWII and still smokable, but produced a hellava cough sometimes. I aquired some Army coffee creamer that must have been old, it was packaged in Army green packets and the stuff wouldn't dissolve in hot coffee.

Interesting. I was a tanker in Vietnam (A Troop, 2nd Squadron, 1st Armored Cavalry Regiment = A21CAV) against Ho Chi Minh and the toughest fighters since WW2. I smoked Lucky Strikes because no one wanted them and the other choices were menthols or Pall Malls. We got a case or two of smokes whenever the resupply choppers could get to us which seemed to be infrequently.

Small world. I usually went with Pall malls or Winston. The Lucky Strikes were too short for my liking so didn't last long enough. I aquired some type menthols, but don't remember the name. An officer had a safe in his room on the ship and never had used it. He had someone open it and the only items inside were menthol cigarettes that were so old the paper was yellowish and the packs looked antique. He gave them to me so I pretended to hide them in a safe place and made sure an E-6 that was known for stealing cigarettes would find my hiding place. He just took one pack at a time so I wouldn't notice. He developed a real bad cough and chest pains and I was a little concerned, but not enough to keep him from smoking them until he finished them all, which probably was about 2 cartons total.

Noyt in Boyd Brothers hiring area, YRC said LTL has a waiting list, don't hold my breath. Gemini and Conway don't hire in my area either. These days it is slim pickings in some areas, I would move but my wife will retire in 7 years with a full state pension and fully paid medical benefits. Some things are too good to pass up.
