The first study was from 2010, this one was from 2015. Obesity is bmi greater than 30.

Years ago Men's Fitness published the article about how synthetic steroids were good for muscle building and no adverse effects, we all know why that article is not around anymore.

But was the study done by people with more education than us?

The study was probably done by the company that sold the steriods. Lol

These studies are statistical analyses. Math is the closest thing to the absolute truth we have.

So if obesity is more than 30, why are companies not using that number as a basis for testing? Why 34 here, 38 there? Makes no sense and adds to the suspicion. This is why the individual should be given a choice, allowed to see their Physician, and have the Physician send the company a letter that states the driver has been seen for sleep apnea, without any results being divulged. The other choice is to see the company Physician.

My guess is because those companies are self insured and can use their own baselines. 30 is the number set by the National Institute of Health.

You can go to you own physician anytime you want. That's what I did, you will find out a general MD can't determine if someone has sleep apnea. They will refer you to a sleep doctor if you meet the general guide lines of being overweight or a big neck. That's the same thing a D.O.T physical doctor will do.

I think that depends on your provider, mine has a Dr in house that participates in the Kaiser Foundation Sleep Apnea Study, and is included in my insurance. Just as my Cardiologist and Physician partner together to make sure I keep my BP in check, any meds I take won't create a new issue, I should be able to use theirs. If I were to be told by a company I have to use theirs, mine won't cover any of it, and would be out of pocket. Am I the only one who uses a Health Care Provider who Partners with Specialists so you not only get the care you need, but get such great preventative treatment you rarely get sick or have any issues or side effects. My Cardio talks to my Dr, they both use the same medical records, and both can see what the other does. Probably why I pay a few extra bucks for them to do my DOT out of pocket.

    Wrong...

I already said here, I talked this matter over with my M.D. After asking me common sense questions regarding obvious potential signs of apnea, told me I don't have it, put it in my file as such.

He even went so far as to say most of this stuff being pushed by the DOT is a "bunch of bullspit." His words, not mine ;-)

Believe you and you can tell me if I'm wrong. Let's say go for a D.O.T physical and that guy thinks you might have sleep apnea. So you pull out the paper from you MD that say he think you don't. Now it'sa power game between the two doctors.

The doctor giving the D.O.T physical can just say I think you do have it because you meet his giudlines and the paper from you MD is useless. You or your doctor can't make the D.O.T doctor sign off on your medical card. Is that not correct ? So your paper from your doctor mean nothing unless he is giving you the D.O.T physical.
