Well replaced my 5th wheel top plate today. Local shop got it from Freightliner. $906. Freightliner wanted $1049 +tax.
Easy job when your brother has a skid loader with fork attachments.... I still managed to get covered in grease.

CJndaTruck, mtoo and RStewart Thank this.

When you guys confirm on a load via the contractor web, do you think it is necessary to follow up with a phone call to the agent?
Another question--does it suck to make a delivery in New York City?

I don't know what you mean by confirming via the contractor web. If I try for a load and they accept me I don't worry about it for 30 mins. After that I will call and make sure it's a good load. Often agents call with info by then.

As for NYC? Yes it can.

Also I'm a bit different. Most loads I have to call the agent BEFORE I grab it off the web. Usually when they have me on the phone they will put me on the load. But that's because I'm a conestoga and match to few loads.

NYC can suck, but you just factor that in before taking a load. Some people refuse to go, and that's fine, but I don't mind it. However, it costs them a premium for me to do it. I take $400 off the top for tolls/headache pay. After I take that and factor in losing the whole day, then I look at whether I feel the load is worth it or not. For instance, a 500 mile run paying $1200 to Brooklyn I view as an $800 500 mile run, thats gonna take 2 days. That's not worth it to me. However, a 500 mile run that pays $1700 is.

I agree with razorwyr. It will cost you 100.00 to cross the GW. Alone I have been there several times in my previous life, it wasn't too bad but have a load out of there so you don't have to sit. With my new and improved life I will stay out. New York City area , no place for me and a w9.

It ain't that bad. Just make sure you get paid well to go. If i go to nyc, or even eastern pa and jersey, the rate is good enough i can bounce back to ohio.

Yay, the rate was not good enough and they "couldn't" go up, so I passed.
I "confirmed" on a different load and not even 2 minutes later I received the load info to my Omnitracs! The rate was just so so also, but I guess rates out of Washington don't pay very well.

Washington can be rough. Most guys grab a load to southern cali then load out of there.

But wait? Aren't you from Canada? How could you load from Washington to nyc? I thought you were restricted to only loads going back into Canada.

    CJndaTruck Thanks this.
