What do you think will happen after the ELDs kick in?

The concrete and asphalt will crumble before your eyes, the sun will set and never rise again, any vehicle over 22k gross will seize in place never to be moved again, and the drivers seat will become empty, the drivers will just evaporate.
The other side says rates will climb, there will be parking issues, but everyone will adjust, and there will be a realization the issue isn't really ELD's, but the HOS. Because everyone was so fixated with the ELD, the HOS issue will finally become the focus as it should have been all along. There is a group that says they will park and never drive again, which they have said so many times before, yet they will back in the saddle to try it. Eventually the HOS will be modified, and some new regulation will be proposed that will get everyone's panties all wadded up, and will be the next focus of the imminent collapse of the industry and mankind as we know it.

 

We will just wait and see. Some predict doom and gloom and some say it no big deal. The more someone is working over the HOS the bigger the impact will be. The people already running ELDs are just a normal day of work.

 

Been on ELD 11 years, Werner---->Landstar, my whole trucking career...I think ive done 3 or 4 days total on paper when i had an elog problem.. Im secretly glad everyone else is joining, oops, did i say that out loud?? Kind of levels the playing field IMO...My only concern is parking may become more of an issue in some places..

 

I think parking will be incredible difficult to find.
Last night I backed between 2 trucks, the elog truck to my right spent the night, the spot to the left of me had 4 different trucks use it during my 12 hour break.

Driver always pull the ELD make them tired or sleepy. You can still stop and take nap or sleep all you want. The ELD will show you just needed more time on the load to log it legally.

 

I won't be running them so they won't be directly affecting me in an obvious manner. The effects I'm expecting are an increase in rate and filling in the gaps where the ELD equipped trucks won't be able to perform.

 

The playing field that your are talking about is a little low, if you ask me, promoting laziness and obesity .I could squeeze more efficiency out of it. I was with Werner on e-logs 15 years ago, after I quit I came alive.

 

I have a question for someone on elogs . Specifically rm eld50 if possible.
Yesterday I do a load, start 845 am in the receivers yard 1030 pm all good with half hour break and driving time 10.5 hours.
My delivery appointment is 5 am. I am not allowed to stay in their yard once empty. Nearest truck stop 30 miles away. I am called to a door at 130 am and empty at 230 am. It is in Virginia where they absolutely do not allow ramp or side of road parking. The load was about 550 miles all in. Either way, isn't the time spent on their yard while putting it in a door and handing in paperwork supposed to be line 4, therefore interrupting a 8 or 10 hour sleeper berth time? This particular customer is very good about using time wisely...like Costco but not Costco.

How do you elog guys run things like this?

 

I think starting in August, when lots of people start switching, we will see an increase in rates. Even already, for the last two months, I have been getting rates, which I only could have dreamed of during last two years.
It's gonna be a big mess in Oct-Dec. Shippers/receivers don't even realize what truckers do everyday to meet those appointment times.
All the schedules will be broken, spot market will explode with high paying loads. Eventually,in the next year or two, it will stabilize, but this holiday season is gonna be insane.
