I used to go to movie theaters, amuesment parks, national parks, museums, planetarium, shopping centers, etc... I used to feel like my breaks were a short vacation, but since Elogs were enforced, I don't do anything with my time off, and I feel like there's no leisure even on my break. 24 hours of work. If I buy my own truck, can I drive for personal use again with an Elog?

If you are buying it yourself, you manage the system, is up to you to select the Options for your setup. I highly recommend keep trucking and the keep trucking eld. Price was cheap over all, and the app is self worked just like paper

I don't understand why not, Your time off has nothing to do with E-Log. If your company doesn't allow Off Duty Driving on there E-Logs did thy ever want you to do it. This a more of a company policy issue than E-Logs.

Companies usually didn't mind my galavanting, I never refused a load, never damaged freight, always on time, never had an accident, etc. I figure, you take what you give, and even when they had tracking devices, nothing was ever said. A few even liked statuses where I obviously put 20 miles of personal use on the truck. I always locked the trailer (3 ways) if I dropped it, and left it in a safe public place. Companies don't have the time to go through and give specific drivers special privileges on the Elogs. They went from easy going, to principle skinner over night. I probably only have a couple years left with the trucking industry at 37 years old. I'll migrate to my wife's country after we build a plantation designed for sharing, but for now, just trying to make our lives enjoyable with my job.

At the moment the Personal Conveyance guidance is by far the most abused of the various regs associated with ELD's. JJ Keller supplies our ELD's and when their reps were in the building training us in January they told our safety dept to take the PC on a case by case basis, don't try to set a single policy. As long as the safety dept is aware of it, the FMCSA is not going to kick too much was their opinion and how they were advising their clients.

The FMCSA has not certified none of these units yet.....I bet the ones that use a phone app will be booted first.
Every ELD on the market is self certified by that company...Makes no dang sense!

The thing that is easy to look for and can confirm an abuse is where the ending location of Drive A does not match the beginning location of Drive B (furthering the load), with non-driving activity in between. As long as this is respected, that's the biggest thing they'll be looking for with independent eloggers.

We run Big Road, it has a line 5 Personal Conveyance mode, I've used it three or four times, have not seen a distance or time limitation. But, I agree, it's easy to abuse, I abused it one Sat. morning for a local haul so I could get my 34 finished. The boss caught it on Monday and I got a butt chewing. He's had to chew out a couple of coworkers as well, and has threatened to deactivate the feature, apparently from his laptop, he can deactivate all of us, or only individuals, based on abuse or use.
