That is the reason for their new found love of experienced drivers! I talked to them, more BS than I wanted to deal with.

They sure seem proud of their hair follicle testing program, must have mentioned it a half dozen times between the recruiter and the medical history interrogation.

Really, hair follicle testing ? That's expensive as hell. I'm surprised they went to that. I drove for them for four years but I guess I can't go back because I went to a Grateful Dead show back in 89 and I DID inhale. Oh well 2 weeks is a bit long for me to stay out anyways.

LOL! Unless you've been growing your hair without cutting it for the past 19 years I don't think you have to worry!
This FAQ site says the average hair dating is about 90 days. Also, it is not DNA testing and is not that expensive - the reason is that you can't fake a sample of hair as you can urine and of course urine is a much shorter time period indicator of drug use :
"What time period does a standard hair follicle test cover?
A standard hair follicle screen covers a period of approximately 90 days, but is susceptible to time variation depending on the growth rate of your hair. The hair sample is cut as close to the scalp as possible and the most recent 3.9cm (or 1.5 inches) are tested. It is possible to go back even further than 90 days since the time period is limited only by the length of the hair sample, but is standardized to a 90 day history.
    Back to TopQ:
What type of drugs can be detected in a standard hair test?
Cocaine (Cocaine & Benzoylecgonine), Marijuana, Opiates (Codeine, Morphine & 6-Monacteyl Morphine), Methamphetamine (Methamphetamine/Amphetamine & Ecstasy), and Phencyclidine (PCP). These five drug classes are mandated for testing by the Federal Government.

This testing thing is another unbelievable aspect of truck driving. To me this is an invasion of privacy. (Which right will be violate next). Testing should only be allowed via 'probable cause'.

It seems that government and business have 'bamboozled' the citizens again.

Deregulation for business and Regulate the citizens. :biggrin_25526:

(What right's will you give up next? What reason will be conjured up? What about giving up our right to bear arm's. A right insured, not for hunting, but to protect ourselves from our enemies, from outside or within. )

The testing is a good thing in my opinion. I want to know that the person behind the wheel of that truck is not in the habit of indulging in things that will impair their judgement or reaction time.

many companies test thier employees, it is used as a deterance to using illegal substances.

I am in the military and we have used random drug testing forever.

Do you want some person driving an 80K vehicle after they have smoked some crack cocaine? Not me. Test away.

If testing is a good thing to assure that folks are not in the habit of
indulging in things that will impair their judgment or reaction time,
why do the politicians refuse to be drug tested in the same manner
that they insist the citizens who elect them be tested?

    What's good for the goose
    Is good for the gander.

How about the politicians setting a good example by agreeing to
voluntary drug testing for themselves, just to prove it doesn't hurt?
And while they're at it, include testing for alcohol.
    Lead by example.

Perhaps they realize that folks who vote for them MUST be out of
    their ever-lovin', drug-crazed, minds? :smt102
