Last week, I was just forced to pay $14 to park at the TA in Duncan, SC. Almost half their huge lot is designated reserve parking. I couldn't find a free designated parking at 6:00pm and parked on the side like I always do when there are no parking. 3 hours into my break, the TA's staff told me to move even though i was not blocking any traffic. They told me to park in the Reserve parking or get out of their property. Normally, I would just move across the street to park at the Pilot or anywhere else but this time, I couldn't because leaving TA's parking lot will require me to go over 5mph which will interrupt my rest break. My company just moved us to the new ELog standard of limmiting us to the 5mph rule so unless i want to break my rest period or break the HOS rule, I have to pay $$ to park.

Not only are the new ELog requirement a pain, drivers will now need to battle for parking spots. Since all Corporations goal is to make a profit, i can see truckstops charging trucks to park in the near future because every parking spots will be in very high demand. The TA in Duncan, SC was a test site for TA to see how much revenue they can generate in parking fees and that is why almost half their huge lot is reserve parking. Keep in mind that I filled-up there, ate dinner at their restaurant and still had to pay for the reserve parking. I could'nt even use my $100 plus points to pay for the parking.

So the newest version on ELog forces me to work less, and make less due to not being able to do inyard moves. The truckstops forces me to pay to park nightly, and my living expenses is raising. I am reaching my breaking point.

Welcome. We've been waiting for you. Where you been? We been here dealing with this for years. And in case you're one who were pissed because truck stops were charging for parking ... you'll soon come to understand and appreciate this service. Make your company reimburse you. I'd leave a company today that did not reimburse parking in the current HOS world and eLogs. But if not, the costs can be itemized at tax time.

You'll get smarter with your trip planning and driving style as you go along. No reason you should have to pay to park every night unless you're regional in a tough market and/or have some bad hours to operate in every day like with some sort of dedicated deal that always leaves you ending your day after 18:00. BTW, it gets tougher in winter months when it gets darker earlier.

As far as your eLog. You're just going to have to "play around" with it to find if there's any "hacks" to allow you some fudge room for short moves. Most do, but they're all different, also how your company has them provisioned has a lot to do with it too.

I start looking for parking at the 9 hour mark... Gives you a 2 hour cushion to figure out the parking... I agree though I think before we know it all Pilot, TA, Petro, Love's will be pay lots..

I don't anything about ELD so enlighten me guys. Couldn't OP log it as off duty? For instance, yesterday I dropped trl at Pilot, logged myself off duty (on paper) and bobtailed to Walmart. You saying you can't do that with ELD?

Welcome to the wonderful world of electronic logs which prevent you from taking a shower when you're trying to get a 34-hour reset and you're already 10 hours into it out in the middle of a cornfield someplace far from civilization.

When the ELD becomes law, not only will you need E-Logs connected to your Truck's computer, you will also be limited to 5mph for inyard moves. Anything over 5mph will trigger On Duty status. So, no more moving around to a different lot without triggering Duty Status change. It is unsafe to travel less than 5mph on public roads. DISCONNECTING the ELD and reconnecting it after the move will still trigger it because your truck's computer has that record.

In yard moves aren't on duty?

E-Loggers cheat more than I do on paper, lol.

As far as I am aware, all the major carriers have not calibrate their ELD device to trigger duty status change at 5mph or higher. When the mandate in December becomes law, they will have to do so.

Imagine the long lines at the truck stops with everyone crawling at 3mph to avoid triggering their ELD. I am doing that now and everyone hates me.
