Driver always comes last. Put in for an unpaid day off to drive my wife to the hospital and back. They had three weeks notice to adjust to the situation. Waiting fo see if they will pull the rug on me at the last minute like they usually do. If so, they will get my letter of resignation. They obviously don't respect me if they can't even let me take care of personal stuff with that much notice. I got a kid coming in March, I simply can't risk working for someone that denies me time off for important stuff.

The Indo-Asian grocery store I deliver that got backcharged $600 for rolling their 2 skids through the front door must have really pitched a fit about that. This was back in May, and I was asked about 2 weeks ago exactky what was performed.

We might wind up having inside delivery charges only applicable if breaking down the skids is required.

Unless the customer is a complete hassle, I quit charging people for liftgate deliveries. For one, most shippers pass on freight charges to the receiver. Including accessory charges. Usually those affected are small businesses that can't afford a forklift. Anything to help the little guy out is a win in my book.

Secondly, once the charges are added, most customers complain up and down these charges and my carrier defers them anyway.

Finally, it is not worth the hassle. Not gonna waste another five minutes of my time to argue about a stupid check mark on the liftgate delivery box. It is additional work placed on me to get their crap off my trailer. That extra $150+ we charge for my efforts, I don't see a penny of it on my paychecks. So what difference does it make? Hell, if anything, I avoid an agressive confrontation with a customer that doesn't want to pay it.

I get paid by the hour, not by the stop.

If I perform the service, I just check it off and initial it on the way back to the truck. Been doing it that way for 12 years.

    No confrontation needed. :)

I got a steering wheel nap on 71 last night, sitting with my truck shut off in the left lane.

I was stopped for 2 hours just north of Ashland, OH due to an R&L truck that had what appeared to be a trailer brake fire that had engulfed the rear quarter or so of the trailer and freight. As if that wasn't enough, he was placarded Flammable 3. So not only did the fire department have to come, but also a Hazmat response team. Long after the fire was put out, the road remained closed so those guys could do their thing.

I had been counting my chickens a couple hours earlier, figuring up how much money I was making in such a short period of time due to getting great miles without any delays and how I was going to miss Akron rush hour entirely going in and out and also pull off getting back to Columbus on the front edge of rush hour when everything is still moving. Once again, "don't count your chickens" lesson learned.

Hey @G13Tomcat - did you have to deal with any of that mess?

If they deny your day off request tell your boss to suck a fat one and then urinate on him to establish dominance!

    a&*hole truck drivers

I know, let's just park everywhere, right in the way at the main hub, just cuz there's 200 trucks a night driving thru here with loaded trailers, having to do paperwork, no no, we're going to park right here.

Like 4 of these useless wild teams just parked perpendicular across the ready pad (where you pull up after you have hooked a set to go inside with paperwork). So they blocked all of it. Almost a couple of fights I heard. "hey, you're blocking my truck"
    "F off, that's for trailers"

Then about midnight, a couple local guys who run 8+ sets a night (no wasn't me) went and got a bunch of empties and blocked them in.

Which was totally awesome. Like all the way around. 8 empties.

Seriously, there is tons of room all around where you aren't going to get hit nor be in the way.

Some of us have work to do.

Wow. I got there at 4am, started moving at 6, came back through headed south around 830, and that report said the backup was still bad at 930.

I felt bad for those guys when I was headed the other direction. At least I was able to set the brakes, shut it down, and relax. Those people had to creep in stop and go traffic as 3 lanes were squeezed over to the shoulder. That backup went for about 7 miles and looked to be running about 2 mph, wheels barely turning.
