I think he's referring to Income Tax.
I know Texas will sent someone out to the residence to verify the CDL holder lives there, because it is used as a tax shelter for some drivers.
Don't know about FL though. -
Escapees RV Club can set you up with a legal Florida address. Don't know the details on it.
Some states you can get away with using a UPS Store by getting a mailing address and mail box there. I think they don't use a P.O. Box number, but a Apt. number instead to make it look good. You'll have to research that. That doesn't work in some states.
You'll have to change your cdl to the Florida address. Florida is the easiest state there is to do that also.Last edited: Sep 1, 2017
Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this. -
One of the forms of ID required in Florida is a utility bill.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
Beware of this: It isn't just the rules of the state you want to establish residency in that you have to worry about.
There are several states that make it hard to be shut of them. They will claim a stake in your income even after you leave their borders. If they can make a case that you "resided" within their borders so many days in a given year they will want a cut of your earnings. Tread carefully. -
These are popular with RVers. They take care of everything. One here in SD: Americas-Mailbox Home - mail forwarding - Americas-Mailbox
Yes, it's mostly because of no income tax. Low costs on license, etc.Chinatown Thanks this. -

If you use your parents house (Florida?) as "home address", why deal with the PO Box idea?
OTR drivers use a close relative's address for their DL all the time and it's perfectly okay. -
What's the big deal, it isn't like you are making a million dollars with no tax deductions.
By the way, I have a letter here from Indiana that is claiming to be cracking down on this practice in trucking, I have no clue why it was sent to me, I'm a michigan resident with a michigan license and only the management of the company takes place in Indiana.
