I'm doing otr so i can save all my money to buy property. Working at mcdonlads would require me to rent an apartment and i dont need an apartment driving otr i live out of the truck. On my reset or downtime just get a hotel room. I'll save at least $10k alone on top of the other money i save not having to pay for an apartment.

I expect to make crap like $600 a week my first year i doubt a mcds worker makes that. Plus when i drive a truck i'm the boss for the most part nobody looking over my shoulder micro managing me. Everyone uses the mcdonalds comparison.

How would you like to make $900 per week your first 7 months, then $1000 per week after that???

At least you have a plan. Sounds like you came into it with your eyes open. Why not set the bar higher? 5-6 months in you should be pulling in $12-1500 a week.

    Good luck

I am a somewhat happy lease operator for Stevens Transport. I agree with everything you said though. 90% of the lease operators jumped right in because they saw dollar signs. I won't be in it long since I am buying the truck I am leasing. I had a game plan from the very beginning and this is just the next step. Company operators get 0.30+ per mile. Dedicated gets more depending on what group. Lease operators currently get 0.88 plus fuel differential. Last week I was paid 1.14, the week before it was 1.23. It depends on the fuel prices.

Stevens runs all newer trucks. Currently Kenworth and Freightliner, since they are getting rid of the others. If the truck is 3 years or 400k miles, it is swapped out with a newer truck.

Make friends with your day and night driver managers. They will take care of you. That goes for any company you decide to work for.

...And...for the record....Stevens is a training company...Not long term employment. They train you, get your driving skills up, ask you to train others. If you want more money, start there and if you get through two years without any issues just about any company in America will hire you. That is something that can't be said about other training companies like Prime or Swift (only using them as examples...cough...cough).

It can actually be said for both Swift and Prime. I made over 70k in my first year at Swift, both dedicated, lease and OTR company. And at the end of that year, I was instantly scooped up by the first company I applied at. There's nothing wrong with Swift. Stevens Tanker looks decent but that's been my only dealing with them up to this point.

Guys looking at megacarriers for their first job really should look into West Side Transport. You will start with a weekly pay commitment of $900 if you go network (OTR).

Does Stevens hire out of Davenport Iowa? Decent company to drive for? I've been driving for 16 years. I hope to see more than .30/mile..

Stevens hires from just about anywhere, but only has one full service yard, in the Dallas / Fort Worth area off Military Parkway.

They will help make arrangements for truck parking if you need it.

They have a reefer and an oilfield support division.

I would be interested to hear what they offer a driver with your experience. Don't expect you will be happy with the offer, but I'd like to hear a number if you are willing to share it.
