Thanks for making the vid. It's informative and you have given two scenarios that are both correct. Obviously we all have different skill levels, experiences, and preferences when it comes to setting up your approach.
I want to point out one thing that is a genuine concern about your second approach to the scenario. And I am in no way bashing your scenario.
If you run a single axle trailer, it's a good trick to flip a uturn. But if your trailer has tandems, those tires will in many cases stop spinning, then do a reverse spin... And in some cases be at a standstill and you are literally pulling them sideways until your truck and trailer is back at a 90° angle.
Sharp spins like that can damage the customers pavement if you are loaded heavy on your arse end. I actually got in trouble with a customer for doing that maneuver in his lot. "Go the #### around the sides and then point to the exit. Do not flip a b#### in my lot again, you guys are digging holes in my asphalt".

I saw a video few years back where a truck did that with a trailer. He was in a tight spot with not much choice. Tires werent spinning but being dragged. Comments on that video mainly targeted those poor tires.

Now it seems to me every now and then if you have to you can get away with spinning the truck around. Back waaayyy back before my time one of our senior guys said that they used to spin our old tandem axle pups around.
We have had guys over time do some spinning and it's messed up some gravel parking lots.
Usually if I spin I try to not have it so tight and do a big gradual easy spin which is easier on the equipment and road.G13Tomcat, misterG and road_runner Thank this. -
I make it a habit to try to do this in as big a circle as possible, but sometimes it just can't be helped.

Holy fricken Moses. The douchebag customer I had today.
Had a delivery of tile. Not the floor tile but the crap rich people stick on the outside of their fancy million dollar houses.
Some dude unloaded me and told me to go inside for a signature. Look for John.
Went inside and there is this douchebag owner. Jesus flip flops, douchebag commifornia surfer hair cut, shorts and a douchebag A&F tee.
All I said to him was "hey, my name is RR, I work for stupid LTL. I got a pallet of tile.
"Oh yeah? Where is it?'
-its outside. "It is just one pallet".
That is when he became unglued
"What did you just say to me?"
-. It's just one pallet and it's outside?"
Listen to me and listen good... It is not "just" a pallet. It's a special pallet. All pallets that come here are special. They are unique. People work very very very hard to cut these stones into the tile they are. This process takes hundreds of hours. These tiles go on houses... Expensive houses. They are installed with pride and dedication. Do you realize we are the #1 installer of custom exterior stonework installation in the state? Do you? Huh? Well now you know. This is not "just a pallet of tile".
....someone send me back to Iraq. I can't handle the stupidity anymore -
And do you realize that I am not "just a truck driver?" I deliver your freight with the utmost care and attention to time constraints and State and Federal regulations. I operate a multi-ton vehicle at speeds unthinkable a mere century ago, and tear up all the muscles and joints in my body to deliver your product how, when and where you want it. And on top of that, I routinely deal with self-important jackholes who honestly believe that they are accomplishing something more important than exhaling plant food, with courtesy, respect and kindness; and I, for (x years) now, in spite of temptation that would make the Devil himself pause in shock and admiration, have somehow refrained from reaching up their butts and yanking out their spines...
...please don't make me break that record I'm so proud of.The Shadow, sdaniel, misterG and 9 others Thank this. -
