Thre truck was 117k. The load was for 48 months but i paid it off in 39 cause i hated having that big payment every month. Yes i put a real down payment on it, that combined with good credit got me a very low interest rate.

    csmith1281 and Waterboy334 Thank this.

So what's going to happen when the ELD mandate goes into effect? Are owner operators going to suddenly drop off by 50% or more?

I believe (I could be wrong) that the people responding. That's easy or find a new company. Are (a) not leased to someone. (B) pulling their own trailer (c) renting/leasing their trailer and also have other high deductions. Of course you said GROSS. But gross don't mean ####. It's net that counts. Hell as a mover I did close to or more than 300k. But spent over 100k on help. Close to 30 grand on supplies, and the list goes on and on.
Now if you asked where can you gross 4 grand a week leased to somebody? That's an easy question to answer. But depends on what kind of trucking you want to do.

Everything you're saying is true for the way a lot of companies run their leases. When I was at Swift, they paid $1.11 per mile with a three cent per mile fuel surcharge. On a trip over 600 miles, they paid $1.12 with that same three cent Per mile surcharge. Doing the math and running my company truck hypothetically as a leased truck, I never saw myself bringing home more than $600 or $700 per week. The leasing recruiter actually told me you pretty much have to train new drivers to make any money leasing.

At prime, they pay 71% to 72% of linehaul depending on the fleet you are on. Plus, I do get their fuel discounts passed on to me plus a legit fuel surcharge. As far as I can tell, Prime is basically a load broker to me, with the additional aspect that they are leasing a truck to me. I could buy my own truck and bring it here and get the same deal. In fact, I would absolutely love to. Money and credit are the issue right now.

I think gross means a lot. The situation I'm in right now, my expenses arent going to change. If I could go somewhere else and get a higher gross, I would make more money. All three matter: gross, expenses, and net.

OK everyone thinks different. I see your point. But to me gross men's little compare to net. You can Gross 5k a week but only net $1000. Another place you can gross 2k but net $1500. That's a simple example of why I say net is the thing to be concerned with. Gross is nice to talk about. Net pays the bills!
Another rea son why NET is more important than gross!
