Ain't that the truth. I just found out that one of my customers passed away. Totally bummed about it. Friendliest guy in town. Always offered me a cup of coffee and a donut when I came by to do a pick-up or delivery. You do get close to some of these guys.

I run expedite, same rules apply. Customer is KING. I have benefited myself and the company I am leased with more than a few times by just being polite and empathetic to THE CUSTOMERS situation. The customer always appreciates that, and HAS rewarded us ten fold. This is a business, and like you stated, most OTR drivers will never understand THIS side of THIS business. I am the representative of my company, and of the broker we use to get these loads. I work for a small company in the big scheme of things, just a handful of us o/ops on the road at any given time, literally around 6 of us. But, we were good enough to earn the General Motors Expedite Carrier of the Year award for 2016-2017.

Attitude, few out here have a good one. I do, because I have seen and pocketed the financial benefits. ;-)

That sucks, I have a few regulars I deal with and would be crushed to hear of their passing. And yes, you do grow a fondness, or closeness to many of these folks. You walk in and everything just clicks. Sad.

You know what's crazy,I run wild so when I stop seeing the customer for a while and return to them I always get a warm welcome.

I have a few like that, good folks, always treat me good. I guess one of the few good things out here, not much of it is.

Used to have a customer that had her freight delivered into a storage unit. I'd get the key a the managers office and unload it into the unit. I'd always write a nice note of the BOL, thanking her
for her business. Its easy to do and keeps the customers happy. Plus it was an easy offload too!

    Ugh... Storage units.

Most of those you can barely even get a truck into.

Lucky you. Most of our storage unit unloads are Cable TV equipment or freakin' periodicals. "Easy" it ain't.

Yeah, I had a single drop to a storage facility one time. I barely could make the turns with a day cab and a 28 foot pup!
