Yes, it's a study that's going to involve 1200 drivers. I just hope it doesn't lead to us having to log driving too and from work in our POV. What irritates me about it more than anything is the presumption that contemplating more regulations will make a truck driver rested. Being tired and stressed is almost built into the job title of a trucker. All the regulation in the world will not change this fact and sometimes, the regulations themselves cause a lot of headaches for a driver.

I park the truck 5 miles from my house. Wife picks and drops me off at the truck. So, I ain't logging that if it goes that route.

Yeah, how about bicycling to the truck, jogging, walking, taking a cab, etc. Then we have personal conveyance in our own trucks which kind of goes against the grain of the concept of this study. For example, trucks at home, I've been up all night, I log personal conveyance to head to a yard to pick up and mt. I guess I'm not rested enough for personal conveyance.

it's only a matter of time before we have to start wearing stuff like fitbit's that measure our sleep. My gear S3 already measures sleep.

Kind of concerns me considering the implications of that if I were to get into an accident a lawyer wanted to pull that information to prove that I wasn't well rested.

If they aren't careful, they will hit a breaking point where there really will be a mass exit of drivers.

The thing is we can think of that ####### Walmart driver for this latest thing going on with personal Vehicles...

Roper's fatigue, exacerbated by his decision to drive 12 hours to work before he started his 14-hour shift, likely caused the crash.

The thing is, being fatigued is part of life. I'm waiting on dispatch right now after being home for 10 days. I've been up all night due to pre-work jitters. It's my nature. I'm also a life long insomniac. Should I tell JCT I can't drive until tomorrow. I'll end up sleeping all day, and be in the same situation.

Being able to drive tired should almost be a prerequisite to getting your CDL. Imagine if the Navy Seals had to make sure you were rested before you went on that special ops mission. You're too tired to handle automatic weapons and explosives, crawl back into bed and get some sleep. Nope, they put these guys through hell week, lots of sleep deprivation, cold, etc, too test their mental acuity under duress and exhaustion. Now, our job isn't THAT extreme, but given the variable hours we run, the mixed up sleep schedules, the 24 hour nature of the biz, sleep deprivation and trucking go hand in hand. This will most likely never change.

Yeah but at the same time we need to start making smarter decisions as a professional group. Being tired is part of it but making the conscious decision to drive for 12 hours to the Distribution Center then get in your truck and work for nearly 14.... What did he think was going to happen being awake nearly 26 hours?

The masses always suffer for the infractions of the few.

I drove trucks in a war zone while in the Army. There were times we drove 24 hours (sometimes more), but we had to. There were two people in the truck, both awake the whole time and taking turns driving. There is no need to ever do anything like that (@Kamkor had the perfect example) here state side.

We are professional drivers and should act like it and treated like it. But, when you got these #### tards out here doing dumb ####, it ruins it for everyone.
