Blew my stack...

    please don’t judge me... or go ahead but don’t share your judgement. Lol
    Recently I managed to have an oops while delivering steel tube.
    Little background first. Went inside office staff says “just pull under...” (this here starts the trouble!) “...the hoist beam right out there and the guy will be out to get you unloaded.”
    So, I do as they say and well the steel beam is a little lower than I anticipated. It rubbed my stacks, but once I heard the noise of it I was already beyond PONT (point of no return) It rubbed a bit more than just a little and bent one stack and removed the other from the lower exhaust. Now I tried to fit the stack back in, but failed. It flew out on the road. I recovered it and had it put back on again where it days later flew off again and ended up in a gully along I75. Now no one was hit or involved and this leads to my question. They are side stacks on a Pete.

    Is the upper stack a DOT infraction if it’s missing?

    Am I risking any issues by running till I can replace it myself?

    Do I need to repair this immediately?
    Length of the stack, how important is this? I may just order both new and replace them at the same time.

    Any one got recommendations on where I can get a couple 5” curved chrome 36-48” stacks?

    So you're driving down the road and your "stack" popped off and bounced into the gulch?

    lol..........What would make it even more funny is if you are driving a Pete 379 or KW W9

    On a serious note- It probably kept popping out because you bent the Muffler Flange or Pipe Flange (whichever) .Yes,An easy Fix you do yourself if you know anything about repairs.

    If you don't,Go to a shop so they can laugh at you

    Don't feel too bad. I bought my truck with a dinged exhaust tip on the passenger side, and the first time I loaded at a cement plant in Indiana, I clipped the driver's side on a catwalk and made it a matching pair. Luckily, I didn't tear anything off...so when I got home, I pulled the stacks out of the mufflers, used a ball peen hammer to round them out and reshape the tips, then lopped a good 2' off the bottom of them. Now, they'll clear anything overhead structure above 10'.

    Replace both of the stacks, and make them shorter. Problem solved.

    Just get a set thats a bit taller than top of bunk and keep on pulling under with no more prob.

    Weed burner exhausts will solve the problem.
    @blairandgretchen mentioned putting weed burner exhaust on his truck; if he did, maybe will post a picture.

    I don't think you are in violation of any regulations.

    Exhaust can't leak under cab. Doesn't say where it has to terminate.
    Put a new band clamp on, to hold together.
