Just finishing up driving school and have my eye on TMC as one of about three companies to get started with. I've read most of the threads here and done my research elsewhere and have about as good an idea as I can about what it's like to work with them, both pros and cons. Two questions for those of you with lived experience in the TMC orbit- they promise $55k starting salary. Is there any reason that I won't be able to hit $1100 / wk gross if I put in the time, work some weekends, etc?

Question 2- I want to talk to some TMC drivers face to face, make sure I'm not dealing with TMC shills. Where should I go hang out (truck stops, gas stations, etc) to flag em down and ask a few questions? I live in SW Michigan, willing to drive most places in the midwest. Chicago? South Bend? Detroit?

Thanks guys. If anyone has other recommendations for good companies who take fresh grads with a clean record that would pay in that $1050+ range let me know. Willing to work for it.

Another new grad, don't remember his screen name, from your area went with Trimac Transportation and making average $65K and home every day. Trimac also has OTR where you can make much more than that. After 24 mos. you can make over $100K doing OTR.
West Side Transport has a guaranteed minimum weekly pay amount where you can make more than the minimum guarantee, but not less. @DoubleO7 works there.

Have you talked with a recruiter yet? Back in my day Michigan was iffy for new hires but that may have changed. 1100. Gross can be done but it may not happen every week. Things happen, and when they do it effects your pay. My first year there starting in January as a newbie I made 68,000.00 after that while gaining experience and knowledge in five years I never made that again. Each year I would make 1000.00 dollars less then the previous year. Didn't make sense. But you could make 55,000.00 just running during the week and being home or somewhere for your 34. To find TMC drivers look at the flying j or pilot. That's the fuel stops. Some may talk with you but they are pressed for time and may not. If you see a truck parked in the lot and a driver is in the seat he may talk with you. TMC drivers are on radio silence here so you can only get an idea from past post. Every once in awhile one will jump in. Good luck.

Thanks for the info here. Will check out Trimac, West Side Transport. Yes I’ve spoken with a recruiter, impressed with how candid he was, but also skeptical given all the horror stories I’ve heard of bottom feeder companies promising the moon and then not delivering on their promises. Michigan is outside their normal perimiter but I’m close to IN border, right on 94 / 90 corridor, he said they’d consider.

@Highway Sailor great tips on finding and approaching drivers. What does radio silence mean? Current drivers not allowed to post here?

I was going to start with them and then they stopped communicating with me. I have no idea what reason or why they didn't pursue me any further. Kind of threw my plans off but now I think it wasn't the worst thing either. I went to Schneider on a dedicated account, home most days. Its not sexy but it paid pretty good and it was a good starting point. I've heard many times over TMC will set you waiting for loads quite often but that's probably the worst I've heard. Good luck.

First year is tough and making $1100/wk will be a hard but possible task. I'd bank on a few hundred less to be safe.

Tmc is a decent place to start, however your pay is heavily dependant on how ethical your dispatcher is. If they don't care for popularity, you'll get the a diverse mix of load qualities. If you dispatcher had their favorite drivers, you'll go to most of the same places with #### freight rates that have to be tarped all the time. Generally if you run the truck the way they want you to by leaving out Sunday to get parked up by 9pm, maximizing your clocks, following their plan, you'll easily make $1000 a week, but again if yuppie dispatcher sucks, you won't make #### regardless what you do

Let's not forget about the planners and the lack thereof planning.
