I am not quite at this self-professed level of desire for solitude, but I am probably close.

I spent about 8 weeks training in a 10x10 box with another driver. The first trainer and I did NOT get along. The second trainer and I did get along, but cabin fever on my part was difficult to deal with.

What I did to deal with cabin fever. First, every opportunity to get out of that truck, take it. Bring a Kindle, or smartphone with a book reader. Sleep as often as you can manage, without screwing your wakefulness up.

I do not know the severity of your desire for isolation compared to mine, but mine is very strong. I forced myself to deal with it, and actively did all I could to distract myself from the fact that I was living in a box with another person.

@Chinatown I applied and they said they only accept new grads from their approved schools. Unfortunately I’m not attending one of those on their list.

@Chinatown .... what’s the company with a 10 day training period and then your solo?

I’m glad I had the training period I had. You’ll really have anxiety if your not prepared for life on the road. Most schools teach you to get your CDL.... not how to be a professional truck driver...
That time on a trainers truck is invaluable.

    I agree with this.

I'm a noob too. But I've heard that driving a truck can be so strenuous because there are deadlines that don't even allow truck drivers any rest! You'll be driving fast at times, just to meet deadlines and make up for slow transit times...

But then again, if you're good at making time... I suppose you'd be just relaxing most of the time down the road lol.

Driving is the easy part, that's not what he means.

Keep your job behind a desk.
That seems to be your best bet.

WDT....You survive him. You’ll survive anything. Don’t tell him I said that. :)

I’m the person who graduated In the last class. I’m realistically making in the $70 k something range per year.

Don’t know what to advise you? Valley Transport will be in to talk to the class. Do mostly delivering liquid fertilizer to farmers. You might like that?

No I'm honest. You may not like it , too bad for you. Your not a driver yet you have no idea, I've completed 3 million plus miles, I know whats ahead of you, you don't. Your wife being a dispatcher means nothing as far as driving.

The driving isn't the problem, the stress is.

You may not have had this kind of stress in you past job, and I can't understand how you quantify your past job as the same as this one without doing the job.

I've seen people like you at the VA, when asked about how trucking really is, I tell them the truth, this job will kill them quickly because it isn't for people who have mental issues like anxiety.

I assure you that there isn't a job on the face of the planet that will be more stressful than what I've done in the past. I'll leave it at that. But like I said earlier, its more of a social anxiety issue of living in small quarters with someone I don't get along with for a long period of time. But, if I was lucky enough to get a good trainer who was all about training me and not "using" me like others have suggested in other posts ie cleaning the truck, walking their dog, sleeping while I drove instead of training me etc I wouldn't have an issue.
