My own truck is ungoverned. Frequently I do "drive away", driving trucks for our customers. Invariably drive away trucks are governed and have maximum speed allowed policies.
I've read through this entire thread. Here's my takes on the debate:
1. Using pejoratives to describe drivers attempting to pass you because overall they are faster than you rises to at least the fifth level of stupid.
2. Not backing out of maximum cruise control, because "if they can't pass quickly they shouldn't try" rises to the tenth level of stupid.
Any time I am in a governed truck, if a slightly faster truck initiates a pass I tap my brakes to kick out of cruise control. That signals to the passing driver that I am slowing down to facilitate their pass. I may slow down 2-10 mph to make sure they get through the pass quickly, then turn off my headlights a couple of times when I see them looking in the passenger side mirror to signal them over. Then I maintain the slower speed as they continue pulling away until I hit "resume" on cruise control, so adequate space in front of me is there for safety.
Good Golly! I actually give up (GASP!) a few seconds out of my day. On the flip side I am able to keep plenty of "outs" in front and to the sides of me. Traffic can flow around me easily, including that developing line of four wheelers following the passing truck.
It's really not a difficult choice for me. But then again, I don't post videos ranting about other drivers.
