It is however a great question for new inexperienced drivers to see. Then like many other issues there is not one size fits all answers to it. YES the best answer is rework the load. However what if that is no longer possible? I once loaded in Effingham late one Friday afternoon and the shipper closed up as I was leaving to go scale. This can and does happen. Reworking it means staying THERE until Monday morning. (late load service failure). In my case I got my Truckers Atlas out and noticed there was only one state in my path that a restrictive tandem length from king pin and that was the state I was in. So I got my load legal by setting my tandems back and took it on to Texas. Then the OP was advised to just haul it. (this was also my advice because of the only 1800 pounds over). Yes you could get hit at the Hope scale just not likely. There were also some reply's to take state and US highways and go around those scales. This can and sometime does become a nightmare. Some cops by their very natures can be very suspicious when they see a strange truck (funny comment I know hear me out). These towns are always worked by the LTL lines that make pickups and deliveries. Same with Grocery Companies and gasoline tankers. Arkansas highway 29 runs into Hope. lets say a trooper has been following you north on 29. Then stops you (happens all the time in America) asks to see your bills. See's Houston going to Memphis. Asks why are you not on the (big road)? If you think a cop is a dummy that don't know that route can be used to bypass a scale you are going to one day be in for a huge surprise. I am not trying to say it is not legal for you to be on that route. I'm saying you are going to be on these cops radars as going around a scale. Then the nightmare starts. Some of the old timers in these forums know how it used to be in regard to going around scales. I don't think it is that bad today. Just know it is not a perfect solution. In this case reworking was the best solution. If however this is not possible if I ran it or went around a scale is going to depend on my experience and how much I am actually over.

There are way less DOT cops to deal with on La3 and Ar 29 than the other way. This is a major truck route. It's the shortest route from the Shreveport area and south on i49 to get up to I30 east and many companys/O/Os run it. And that nbTx scale at Queen City is open a lot more than it is closed anymore. The cops there can be a real pita.

I agree. I'm not going to take the conversation any further either. One of the frustrating aspects to retirement is not seeing all the changes that are slowly happening all across the country. Eventually there will be nothing for us old farts to do except drink our geritol and watch old westerns on TV.

Re-work it flip it and reverse it.

I was 36,xxx and the scale shut me down til it was fixed. No fine but the rework fees for the two fellas that came out, (one guy just sat in his suburban and watched) and the rollback, forklift and pallet jack, and I ran the pallet jack by the way was $4600 bucks.
That includes sending the one pallet the customer put on that didn't belong on the load to the final destination and back to shipper at $2 bucks a mile round trip.
