Put the jakes on as needed - otherwise its like going fuel brake fuel brake - why slow down more then needed?
Lonesome Thanks this. -
I drove my KW with it on all the time.
This Volvo has a much more sophisticated brake. Affects the shifting and all. A 4 level lever that increases its response. I can’t just leave it on. -
In my truck I ran the jake brake switch right to the shifter. This way it's very easy for me to control as I shift before or after. I use it a lot and I hated reaching for the dash.
You have to be careful if your Jake brake is loud and be considerate of people where and when you use it.
But for me, I could drive in such a way that my Jake brake greatly reduced how much I needed to use my tractor brakes.
If you are in a company truck I would recommend only using the jake brake on steep inclines and when you need the extra braking. Don't leave it on all the time.Lonesome Thanks this. -
My jake is on all the time. I also run everywhere with my left turn signal on. The cost for extra blinker fluid is justified by the need to be ready for eventual left turns...
Blackshack46, gentleroger and Lonesome Thank this. -
I use engine brake every time I need to slow down from 25mph or higher unless I am bobtailing as the engine brake is too strong in those circumstances.
-
Use on all highway slow downs.
Leave it off in town.
Guys will set theirs on medium and use it to speed shift. -
