I took umbrage once, but I returned it. I didnt want to be labeled a thief. Besides, it wasn’t raining so I didn’t need it anyway.

You would have to wait until they went bankrupt. If you jumped the gun, you are on the hook for everything. Literally everything.

And even that is assuming that they run their own lease company. If you're signed up with a bank, then you still owe the bank.

Why would anyone lease a truck from a carrier and not be allowed to take it to another carrier??...

 

Because with a lease you don’t own it. You are just renting it. At the end of the lease payments you then have the opportunity to buy it. Which is insane, if you wanted to buy it you should have in the beginning and bypass the lease portion.
