I’m often told they want that delivered yesterday - so I never get the chance to be early.

They tell me they need it yesterday when I leave the shipper. But when I get to the consignee they don't have room for it.

Interesting topic. When I was driving I went by my dispatch instructions unless one of the following occurred. 1. I had experience with receiving company and knew I could deliver early. 2. I called or my company emailed the receiving company and I was authorized to come on early. An example of this I think I wrote about a while back. I was having horrible problems with a bad reefer that TK and my company gave up on. It was going to have to be took down and a major overhaul done. I had a load of General Mills products that was supposed to stay at -10. I actually went to the Walmart DC south of Kansas City and begged security to call the dock manager and let them know my problem. They did not like it but went on ahead because another company was late and I got that door. Generally speaking it is always better to go by that dispatch time.

One of my favorites is calling the reciever, only to get some office type that is in another place from the delivery point. Tell them you ETA and they say OK, thats great, works for us. Only to get to delivery point and have the reciever types go what are you doing here. We never got word this load was on the way.
