Hi Moose 1958, I am wondering why your friend in New Mexico can't use paper logs until the e log is fixed.

The driver is not my friend. The person he works for is. All I know is the driver did not show the officer his logs. The elog device is not working (they have had problems with this system) I'm guessing the driver just decided to drive and ignore this. At this point I don't think the driver knew he could use paper logs. The driver was put OOS about 8PM East coast time last night. He has about 10 hours left. The owner is trying to get him going. The owner does not have a driver anywhere close to pick up that load. Service failure I guess if they can't get a new delivery appointment.

Got ya. Currently getting unloaded reading this. At first I was thinking it was part of the mandate for the elogs. Which wouldnt make much sense cause things break. Then im thinking the dot officer didn't ask if he had paper logs he could use. I had a officer ask me why the product in the trailer is not recorded on my log. Told him I wasnt required to provide that information unless I am hauling hazmat. He decided he didnt want anything 2 do with me. Said have a nice day driver.

I do the same thing Snackbar does, lots of Split Break Provision.

Pretrip then drive 3-5 hours then take a 2 hour break or an 8 hour Sleeper break, doesn't matter which one comes first no matter how many supertruckers swear up and down one or the other comes first lol.
then drive the balance of the 11 off and take the corresponding break after to complete that cycle's "10".

No 30 minute break is required because the 2 hour portion meets and exceed 30 minutes and the 8 hour portion also meets and exceeds the 30 minute mandated break requirement.

Now there are some circumstances where you might still have to do a 30, that would be if you drove say 1 hour then took a 2 hour break, well, you'd have the balance of 10 hours minus your pretrip/fuel left over which exceeds the 8 hour limit so then you'd have to think about stopping early for the 8 hours sleeper portion to defeat the 30 minute break.
