Do you always read half of a post before quoting it?

What happened to get you to a place where you ran over the sign is more important than the sign itself, I'd think.

The biggest thing to remember is: NO EXCUSES. Signs don't move. You hit it.

If it was simply a garden variety misjudgment of a turn or backing issue, the worst that will probably happen is a few days in a truck with a finishing trainer who will work with you on maneuvering skills.

That is assuming this is your first incident.

Again, I'm going to repeat this. OWN IT. Do not make excuses to whoever talks to you about it. Even if another driver was guiding you and ####ed up, you were still the one behind the wheel.

Oh yeah. Forgot to mention in the other post. I recommend CoPilot for directions. I use it, but still use your brain.

Repercussions really depend on the company you drive for and what they think of you...or what kind of a mood they are in that day. I see a lot of stomped signs though, so if everyone got fired for it there wouldn't be many of us left driving. And I think you did the right thing reporting it. If you hadn't, and just left, and then got called in later because someone else saw you, then I think the company would come down a lot harder on you. When I was starting out I backed into a utility pole. Stuff happens, just try and learn from it.

i actually knew a driver, had many years experience, that ran over and destroyed a street sign. he kept going, there was a public works crew there doing some work across the street, and saw everything. he not only got arrested, but the state of MA took away his CDL, and he HAD to go back to CDL school and start all over again...AFTER his CDL suspension was done and over with.

he came to work at my (former employer back then) and told us what happened. cuz were heard he lost his CDL. we "assumed" at the time, it was for a DUI or something, that time, we "assumed wrong".

so YES, there ARE CONSEQUENCES for your actions

he needs to know this, so he can be better prepared for any other job application/interview.

feeling "good" was an after thought.

From all the comments it looks as if several enjoyed my image in post 10. I hope you understand that was posted to be funny. It is not my position when it comes to handling these situations when they happen. If you did not live in Virginia back in the late summer early fall of 2014 you might not have heard of the news story about the missing college coed. They found what happened to her because of a business had a camera that recorded it. In fact the police got several video's and made a nice timeline. Then after catching the guy and getting DNA they solved several other sex crimes in the area. How many of you watched the video of that C 130 going down in Georgia? Business camera footage! If I understand it correctly there are close to 300 million people in the US. EVEN if 10% had smartphones and knew how to do it that is 30 million video camera's out there. How many drivers now use GOPRO's or the like? Face it, today if you pull a boner the chance of that boner being filmed is great. I admit to filming and sending the mp4s to carriers. I will do it in a heartbeat. Oh, one more thing, NEVER assume anything when it comes to being filmed. I found out several years ago that the owner of a drop yard in Texas had placed a GOPRO camera in an old abandoned beat up tractor and had it set to record drivers coming in and out of that drop yard. In all honesty I suggest anytime you do damage to another vehicle or a stationary object that you should if possible report it. I am aware of my comments in another thread about NOT reporting it when you hit parked trailers etc etc. I still stand by those comments. In these situations use judgement. If you have took 1/2 the side of a parked trailer off I suggest reporting this. if you just made simple contact and made a small scratch do as you feel you should. I would not report this. The point of my comment is we now live in a video society. There are millions of video camera's out there. Just as a test I logged into youtube and searched video's using the term (swift trucking fails) then filtered those results to just posted in the last week. There were 29 video's. Safety dept's look at these video's too. Sometime they get them in emails. You hit a road sign I highly recommend you call a cop.
