Had a call from my old boss yesterday begging me to come and work for him because he can't find a driver for my old run and the rates are through the roof. He said the ELD mandate has pushed shipping rates through the roof and some O/O's left the business rather than use ELD's. Told him thanks but no thanks, even with much higher pay..
A former co-worker confirmed that that high rates are having a big impact on small DC's who are struggling to afford the higher shipping costs and may close up shop because of it.
I'm just getting into the O/O end of the business and it seems like a great time to do so. I started my driving career using ELD's and have no problem with them at all.
What is everybody else seeing out there?
ELD Mandate....Any O/O's left the business because of it?

I can't really tell. I keep my rates steady.
I swear I see far less of certain trucks though.....PGT comes to mind right off the top of my head.
But some other companies seem to have lost drivers/trucks too. It takes a lot of driving and watching to notice....Last edited: May 16, 2018

I see the truck stops are parking areas are fuller than ever, so the only thing the ELD mandate did was stop the cheating of the logs. If those who said they were going to leave did, there would be more than enough parking.

I don't see that issue running the Midwest and Northeast. I look at night when I drive past them and they have spots. They are crowded....but a spot or 2. I used to never see open spots at night in my lanes.
