No, it's not stripped, it's cracked, and it's warranty work, just a matter of whether it's the rear end mfg or KW that is going to cover it. I mean, it's not the entire housing that is cracked, but it is the housing. If it were an older truck, sure, that would be great, but with a 775k mile warranty on the rear end and only 375k miles into... hell no, they are fixing it with a new one. I'm not about to void the warranty on anything with this truck, it has something major every 120k miles

I have never heard of over tightening a fill plug on a rear end resulting in cracking the housing. But the way manufactures are trying to shave weight off of every component and save save cash at the same time, I can see it being a possibility of occurring. I predict two things
1. there are thousands of trucks running around with a crack at filler plug
2. They will fight tooth and nail to deny the warranty saying it was over tightened (specs say tighten to 28 ft lbs) or some such bs. (that has never been an issue in the pastHighway Sailor and spyder7723 Thank this. -

First off thanks for all the info guys. about a year ago my wife and i decided we wanted our own truck. We both currently drive local for the oilfield and work 4 home 3 and are home every night, but our youngest will be gone in a year and we decided we wanted to run OTR. Since starting this thread 6 months ago we have saved 20,000 and hoping to have over a 100,000 by the time comes. We already have our DBA set up, bank accounts set up, and I started buying equipment based on this thread. Mercer definitely seems like a family and we like that. You guys have answers all my questions i could have imagined except for one but I may know the answer to that.
Will mercer let my wife and I run our DBA name and the like on our truck?
Clearly thier DOT number and " leased to mercer" has to be there but I wasnt sure if the would approve the DBA or other writing on the truck.horsecrazychic22, Razorwyr and RStewart Thank this. -
