You don't see that as an odd situation? You are telling me he pulled over to send a text and someone just happened to audit his phone records? Although it would have been a hassle, he could have stepped in front of the truck and soon after, pressed the in-cab record button showing him texting outside the truck at that time. Or he could have called. They have policies in place to allow calls on the drive line at your own risk. Why take the chance with texting..? There's more to the story.

What I see, assuming the story I got is factually accurate, is the driver in question attempted in good faith to comply with Walmart’s phone crapola by pulling over to send a text instead of doing it while driving, and got canned for it anyway.

In lieu of the term “bovine excrement”, “unintended consequences” will also suffice since apparently Walmart is hard up to kick drivers to the curb anyway.

I'll see if i can gather some more information from some sources with some credibility. I heard about it a while ago but never any hard details. Only one i knew any facts about is a driver that was texting while driving around the yard in sutherland. I think a driver told someone in safety and also had video proof from the cameras around the perimeter of the building.

There's plenty of stories of mega driver getting fired for not wearing seatbelts on private property yet getting fired anyway after that tearless retina snitches them out. The camera is repulsive and anyone dealing with one is a fool.

Seatbelts dont save lives. They are there to make the fat ones uncomfortable in their seats clearly. And i guess I'm a fool for dealing with a camera day to day. I'm also a well paid fool but im fine with that.

Been a couple guys which is why safety warns you to stop, go on duty, send your text, make sure it is sent, wait at least 4 minutes so that the on duty time records (might be 2 minutes now with peoplenet?) , put your self back on drive and go.

What guys stated they were doing was pulling over and sending a text. However all safety knew for a fact was that at XX:XX the driver showed sending a text message while on the drive line.

By policy he was fired. They have no choice with being the single biggest target for lawsuits in the country, and the massive fines associated with texting in a commercial vehicle while driving for the company. They have to have a hard policy as proof they do not condone it.

Does it suck for those fired? Only of in fact they had stopped. I know I have sat in more than one annual class and been warned. Also the autotext response can get you fired. They can not discern what text is sent.

They usually don't watch the OBC as hard because at 2 mph it goes into safe mode unless you have two drivers logged in.

I tried getting more info but no one seems to know much. Although if he had a camera in his truck, i doubt he stopped to send the text. They aren't going to get rid of you in a situation such as texting while legitimately stopped. Ill keep trying to find out more though.

Look above at 06Driver’s post if you haven’t seen it yet, since I’ve argued this with him before and he didn’t deny it.

The guy I read about here pulled over to send a message, but he was in a bad area and it didn’t go through right away until he got a few miles down the road. Unfortunately he was driving at the time.
