If you where thinking about Dbl's/ Triples, that is pretty much going to be LTL and it is mandatory to have it to get hired on. I cannot think of any LTL company that does not require hazmat.

If all you are hauling is food, don't need it. There are companies out there that specialize in refrigerated HazMat, and they pay well. Some of the mega's will also haul refrigerated HazMat, and the reason they prefer you get one. When I was at a mega, if there was no food to be hauled, they gave me HazMat loads, which helped when it slowed down.

Agreed. I was told when I asked several weeks later the company saved a good bit of money on insurance because of not hauling hazmat. It comes down to knowing the customer and just asking your employer. If you are never going to need the dang thing no use in going through that process every time you renew.

I would have them all save passenger. I will never haul humans. There is something grotesque about talking freight.

I had mine and sometimes hazmat went into reefer for temp to prevent overheating with a possibility of problems.
I turned in mine a long time ago to remove a dispatcher who did not care for obeying Hazmat bypass rules in the baltimore area. He can go swim the bay if he cannot wait 40 minutes for me. (Crossing keybridge instead of tunnel) It was very satisfying to show him a minted replacement CDL updated with no hazmat for his load packet next day.
And you wonder why I have difficulties with dispatchers sometimes.UsualSuspect Thanks this. -
