I love the way the headline makes losing money sound like a good thing. With tight capacity leading to Big rate increases all the other LTL companies did not have a problem making a profit in the first quarter. 10 years later & management still hasn't figured it out yet!
speedyk, Bob Dobalina and Radman Thank this. -
too much debt
i'm sure if you take out a lot of that money used to service the debt, they would be doing just fine.
Debt is good, up until it isn't
You see it in continued waves throughout history and all kinds of companies. -
Ever get on with ups? Not to be contrary, but im surprised you say its unethical, in your opinion, for representation, yet you want to consider ups. -
I did get employment elsewhere. Based on your comment, it is fair to assume UPS is Union or even all union like ABF?
Not trying to split hairs .. But to contextualize my previous posts, and I want to be fair; I'm not anti union. I think it is more than fair to have a point of contact if you are being mistreated or taken advantage of.
My disdain with an organized workforce is that people sign on to a job knowing what they are getting themselves into. It's pretty absurd for a owner to come to work one day and the people you hired are now threatening to hurt your company by organizing over something as stupid as a $.50 raise. It's even more insane that people have to participate in a boycott or walkout because they are members of the union. -
Ups is all union. As for 50 cents, not many bargaining units are going to strike over 20 bucks a week. But in Minnesota , the beer delivery guys just went on strike and won, because the company wanted to take away their route helpers. Kegs of beer are heavy, food and beverage are already lit up with workers comp cases as it is.

I am not disputing reasonable accommodations. I've just seen several examples where companies had to shut their doors because of union demands that they could not agree on.
I see both sides of the argument. When I left Reddaway, I had a down right racist boss that confronted me about me open carrying a firearm when I was not at work (it was a small town in Montana). He said "you should not carry a firearm in the open cause you look like one of those sandni**ers that blew up the World Trade Centre in 2001". I am a combat veteran from Iraq and a protected minority. So I think I was not out of line to file a complaint
It went on deaf ears and I was reprimanded for stirring the pot.

No one likes food or beverage delivery, i dont care what it pays, its not enough for what you put your body through.

So
It sounds like a great argument for Union representation.
