What are the pros and cons of signing on directly with Landstar versus signing on with one of the Landstar agencies such as Landstar Ranger, Landstar Inway, or any of the other agencies that are out there? Opinions on each option would be appreciated. Just doing some long-term planning.

You would end up in one of the divisions. Not sure what it matters which one. You wouldn't be leased to just "Landstar".

You will apply with LS and will be assigned Ranger or Inway or Express America etc. Almost all new hires end up at Ranger these days. It has the most trucks. We are up to 10,100 total trucks now. Expect the whole process to take 4 to 6 weeks so apply while you are still employed unless you want a 6 week unpaid vacation. Once on board you will attend orientation at one of about 8 orientation centers across America for about 2 and a half days and then you will wait another day or two until they find you a LS trailer, unless you have your own trailer and then you just bolt with no wait. Not too bad all in all.

Rates are on fire now. Everything is up. Be prepared to make a lot of money if you run the right lanes. You will figure out what those are pretty quick. Be prepared to win. You will win a lot. You will win so much you will get sick of winning....... oh wait that's that other guy's saying.
