My posts don’t gave a negative tone . You’re reading replies in this thread . Your variable expenses are fuel , maintenance , insurances . And whatever your carrier tacks on plus their brokerage fee, usually a percentage ranging from 10-30 percent of load revenue . The only factor that changes outside of this is equipment cost , whether it is financed or owned . Pros and Cons to financing new equipment vs owning older equipment is you can write off interest , payments and depreciate new equipment and the maintenance cost is generally less , whereas the cost to operate older equipment is generally higher , with not as many write offs besides repairs . If you turn your own wrenches as I did on older mechanical equipment the maintenance cost drops . All of this is variable but it all falls within a general range that can be factored . Your maintenance is .04 to .10 cpm. Your fuel , generally 15 percent of revenue or easily figured out by dividing your average MPG by the cost of fuel I.e. if you’re averaging 6 mpg and fuel is 3.00 a gallon , your fuel cost is .50 cpm . I know how tough it is to make it as a single or small fleet operation . It can be rewarding and it can be frustrating . On the way home and you lose a turbo ? Extra week out to make up for it . Family emergency and you’re 2,000 miles away ? Plane ticket or dead head cost plus down time . I’ve turned wrenches in 105 degree heat swapping out heater hoses on fuel rails . Borrowed a torque wrench and changed out a wheel seal in a TA parking lot in Barstow . Swapped out a turbo in a junkyard because I could pull one for 600 bucks off a junked CAT motor and the only cost was my time and a gasket kit . Despite all that I enjoyed being able to flip dispatch off , turn down loads , run the weather and geography I wanted to run . Specifically I was only addressing one guy in this thread and throwing my two cents out there . You guys are telling him 30k . That’s two solid good years of revenue to make it out of the red on that bill . I know , I swung a 435 CAT when mine sucked two pistons and put a hole in the block on a New Years Eve. Cost me 35 k. So no , I’m not negative , I’m just responding .

    Cool. Thank you.

13 speed is easy to drive. It's just a 9 speed that will allow you to split the gears on the high side.

Just the way I costed out major repairs , for myself . Actually more like three years . 125 k mile a year average multiplied by 8 percent maintenance cost per mile .That’s 10 k a year . That extra 8 percent I’d put aside on top of my regular percent monthly to pay off the repair

I’m costing it out over time vs revenue generated per mile. Your bank account has nothing to do with it
