Thanks for the info on Prime training U2exit, it was very well written and you had a lot of good info in there for us folks who want to get into the trucking industry. I am looking in to going to Prime myself, I have already spoken to a recruiter from there and she has e-mailed me the training info that I requested. I do have a question for you and this might help others when they ask.
I asked the recruiter if I can take my CDL test for my permit in my home state and she said yes, is that correct??, and by having it does it mean that new students that do have it , do they just go through the orientation phase during that week?, anyone else that might know of this can reply as well...and if anyone is in trainning or done with training can I get more insight....
Thank you ....Last edited: Feb 10, 2009

If you have you permit thats it. You just dont have to take the MO permit exam while everyone else is. It only puts you a little ahead. Time you probably will hang out in your hotel room or at the Terminal.
If you get your permit in your home state you need to make sure its a hard copy and not a paper permit. MO only accepts hard card permits.
Just like any other permit, you have to get experiance behind the wheel with a liscensed driver (your instructor)... so no you dont go right to Orientation.
Orientation, by that title is for liscensed experianced drivers coming to Prime. PSD is the title of your course, and yes some of the classes are shared with orientation... but you are a student. -
Well U2exit , that's good to know , at least with this information about getting your CDL permit from a home state on here. This will give others a chance to read and maybe get theirs prior to going down to Springfield. That will take a little stress out. Do you know of any Prime terminals up this way in the Chicago area???. Have you driven through Chicago to drop off or pick up freight.
-
Oh yeah, lots of different place in and around Chicago. Pickups and Deliveries.
Kraft in Aurora... stands out the most. Places in Belvidere, Dekalb. Lots of in and out loads in IL. No Terminal.
If you go home there, your fleet manager will probably have you drop your trailer at one of our customers. Aurora for sure, last time I was there I saw at least 8 Prime trailers. -
I have read this thread and other concerning Prime as well as looked at their website, I am unclear on what to expect as an experienced driver. I have had 20 months with TMC as a flatbed driver. I have been running a Martial Arts School for the last six months. TMC has changed their hiring area so, short term, I can't get back on with them.
What can I expect at orrientation? Will I have to go out with a trainer? Can I go directly into the flatbed division. What kind of home time can I expect in Austin, TX? In other words, do you go through Laredo, TX much? Anything else you might think is important. -
I'm moving my family to Ft. Worth once I get through training. So I'm hoping Prime gets to go to Texas fairly regularly as well. Not that I need to be home every weekend, just so it isn't difficult to get me home when it's time.
