Yes and yes I had one tarp load.

    On my third load now.

Honestly the rates are not what I expected. But talked with a guy who's been here a long time while loading today, and he said its been way down the past few weeks.

Being as I'm still brand new here, I do expect it to take some time to figure things out.

My biggest problem, is that its taking me way too long to secure and tarp. That should improve with practice... I hope.

One thing I have to say...

The level of respect that has been shown to me by everyone in Louisville that I have spoken to since day 1 is incredible. For example, my coordinator told me he'd be "honored" to work for me the day we met. I can't fully explain it, the way it feels like you're being talked to here.

I can explain it. You are being talked to as a business partner. It's kinda cool seeing the reaction from new guys that have only worked for the big mega carriers like schneider/swift/etc. And id love to say its a mercer thing but reality is its how its done at all the good owner operator carriers. Except landstar, they went big corporate a long time ago. But go to admiral, daily, greentree, and its the same way, maybe even more so since they are so much smaller.

    Same way I felt also.

Rates will come back, it's just the end of summer slow down. They are starting to come up a little now.

When I first started here last November it had been about 15 years since flatbed and I was nervous as all get out. I thought I would have major trouble but as I got more time in the faster I got at securement. It will get faster as you go.

I am still not the fastest and never will be and I probably over secure things but it's me.

It's easier to take the extra chains off than it is to pick it up off of the ground.

Yes you will get faster but The first question is what is to long I have to admit securing and tarping A 4’ load of even material in 30 minutes or less is nice at 52 years old but that’s more about having the right tarps for the right job last Friday I picked up a load that called for 6’ tarps load wasn’t ready 3 hour weight before loading 1 hour to load 3 hours to secure pad and tarp + the 3 hours I was on the clock before arriving total 10 hours of the 14 shot it happens good thing we get paid by the load not the mile and it was Friday

Rates arent the best now but still decent paying stuff around. Certainly not like it was a month or so ago. The volume of freight isn't there that's for sure I load at two different steel mills very frequently and neither has had any loads on the board for over 2 weeks now.

The more you tarp and secure the better you'll get at it. I dont rush my securement. I try and do it right the first time so I'm not the guy on the interstate ramp fixing stuff.

Yup, they definitely have some good people in Louisville that will treat you right.
