So what are those 55 zones in the middle of no where?

    Where in Tennessee?

65 only has slower limits in Nashville to my knowledge and they are all vehicles. There are no split speed limits around Nashville.

Here's something I've always wondered about when it comes to speeding: How is tolerance for speeding when you're going through a zone where trucks are limited to a lower speed than non-trucks?

For example, if I'm going through a zone where cars are limited to 70 and trucks are limited to 55 like Michigan used to be, I'm probably running 64 or 65. If the speed limit for cars is 70, then many of them are going right around 80, and I just don't feel very safe running 55 and having them run up on my trailer at 80.

I feel like troopers have a little bit more tolerance for trucks going a little bit over when it's that type of a zone. Anyone here ever gotten lit up in a zone like that?

What they need to do is put sensors in the speed limit signs to send out signals to the trucks' ECM unit to limit that truck's speed to the exact speed limit for that zone since truckers are too stupid to limit their unit to what the sign says.

And Im sure everything he says is true, especially about VA. Ive had to deal with them myself. You drivers should take heed to this. Speeding will get you nowhere in trucking anymore. Your level of experience wont mean a thing to them if they see a bunch of speeding tickets on your record so you better adjust yourself accordingly. Take it from someone whos been there. I could go back to anyone Ive ever driven for if it was their choice, but its not anymore- its up to the insurance company, someone who doesnt know me from Adams House cat. For that very purpose, I would never consider spending even one night away from home in a truck again until the day I die. Just not gonna happen. If they want to drive them, they can but they are going to have to get out from behind that desk to do it, theyre not going to use me.

It it’s usually the “old iron” that are speeding and inches behind a minivan filled with kids.

Thats right. Most everywhere you see reduced speed for trucks signs, its because EPA has determined that air pollution is too high in that area and they have required states to drop the speed for trucks. They are real serious about it too! I live in one of those areas.

From the 8 mile marker on 81 all the way to Knoxville is 55 for trucks and from the 55 mm on 81 all the way to VA is 55 for trucks. It also applies on I-26 from the VA State Line to about Johnson City..The restriction also applies in other parts of the state, including Memphis unless they have rescinded it? I dont keep up with Memphis anymore- too far away! I might get down to Knoxville or Chattanooga now and then, strictly for pleasure though! lol

Yeah I know about Jefferson,Knox, and Sevier.

But I-65 does not have any. And no one pays attention in Memphis as long as you are not blowing through car speed limits.

I just cruise with traffic when I run Midway and never gotten a sideways look. Their EPA exemption might go away anyways with the new emission standards.

Lol. ECM speed likely won’t be the same from truck to truck due to tire wear and mis-calibration so you’d end up with a giant cluster of guys going within 2-3 mph of each other, which isn’t bad until someone tries to pass because their 55 is actually about 56 and the other guy’s 55 is about 54.7.
