Man climbing that hill on 84 east in New York right past the Port Jervis exit was a challenge last night. At one point I was in 6th gear. Lead trailer was almost 20k lbs and kite was 18k lbs. Too much weight for my more than 1 million mile Volvo.

I used to run doubles and triples in Montana. I had to shift into low range a time or two going up a 6% grade while being maxed out at 106k lbs.

I also ran a million mile truck

Yup, I feel like anything with less than a million is pretty fresh, used to ragged KW fleet cabs with wiring dreadlocks hanging down and 79.x loads on western mountain grades.

I look at what the FxF guys drive, wouldn't know how to act. Are they allowed to pick their nose in those things? Is there a butler arm that pops out of the dash to serve cordials and canapes?

Not all them have new ones. I call Prescott The Valley of the Sterlings because I see so many there. Some big name LTL's too. The land that time and fleet management forgot.

What does an LTL doubles set tare out at? I had some pneumatic doubles that were around 25k, some of those newer pneumatic semis were around/under 24 if the driver was telling me right. AZ has signs prohibiting commercial trucks from the left lane on an upgrade if over 13 tons, so it's nice to have a scale ticket for a 12.7 tare instead of going up Black Rock at 5 mph.

I think two empty pups will scale empty somewhere around 35k or so.

Sounds about right A single axle daycab weighs around 13k, then each pup is 10k. That gives you another 1-1.5k for a con.

Our rule of thumb was to not load more than 1k of freight per foot of trailer space to scale legal on both gross and axle.

That works a lot better with long boxes than with pups.

Yeah true. I don't think I've ever seen a 28 ft pup loaded with more than 24k of product. I used haul talc powder which was some super heavy stuff when it was a T/L.

If we are going into Rocky Mt doubles being pulled by a twin screw, you can haul a substantial amount of weight depending on your states permit.

If I remember correctly our empty pup weight is 9,000 lbs. Dolly around 3,000 pounds. Volvo tractors are the lightest 12,000 or 13,000 pounds, Kenny and Pete are the heaviest around 15k.
