At XPO all of the trailers have had the glad hands on the right side along with the release handle on the tractor 5th wheel and con-gears and the crank handle on the landing legs. It has been this way for years deliberately to force the drivers to walk around the equipment when coupling/uncoupling...
Recently they have purchased new equipment that has everything left side oriented. Now we have older trucks and trailers with everything on the right mixed with newer equipment left side configured... It's a royal PITA, especially when you have a routine that you strictly follow to prevent a missed step in the coupling/uncoupling process for 2 or 3 tandem trailers. The bean counters at corporate really thought this one out!

That’s what makes them bean counters.

Had to drive Penske rental straight truck today in the middle of nowhere. Mostly farms and crappy roads. That thing had no power going up hill even when empty:confused:

    Anybody wants some corn?

Consolidated Freightway put all of the above on the right side for Your Safety. They wanted their transport operators to work on the curb side out of traffic.
The air line position was for clearance on their short wheel base cab overs.
This also was the same for the Con-Ways.
Yes their was a time when companies really did care about their employees. Which fell by the wayside as the bean counters took over with share holder value ideals.

Another day, another busted trailer from the other end. This time it was a rusted out air tank that I could hear hissing 100 ft. away.

Luckily we switch at a terminal, so it was easy enough to dump it for an empty. Maybe they'll get tired of fixing relay loads just to get them off their lot and start calling for better PTI's.

We got new E logs at work! There so much fun, everyday is like playing A big game of beat the clock!

Today I got back to the yard with 39 minutes to spare!

yes you need to have fun with these logs I’ve made a game of it.

I already asked what happens when I run out of hours on Friday. Turns out I have to sleep In the trailer all weekend at what ever stop I’m at.

"There was a time when companies really did care about their employees"

Must have been long before my time. I was employee #XXXXXX at Reddaway. At least that's how I was treated . Right in December, a few months before I quit, I slipped and fell on some ice covering my step. I caught myself on a railing before hitting the floor but injured (pulled a muscle) in the process. Called up dispatcher and let them know what happened . He said regardless how small or large it was, I needed to be seen at the ER (per company policy).

I wasn't even done getting x-rayed when my boss got a hold of me. He didn't even ask how I was doing.

Hey R/R, this is your jackhole boss . I need you to bring back the truck and then do a ten page accident report. *click*

The next day, I received a letter of reprimand for being careless and also had to call the vice president of safety so he could chew my arse some more. Two days of light duty doing computer based training. These are all "checkboxes" big corporate signs off after an incident.

My "training" consisted of three or four modules that revolved around maneuvering a tractor trailer in tight spaces and the dangers of low overhead clearance. All a bunch of BS classes that had nothing to do with my accident.

Somewhere though at the end, I found my way on a quarterly PowerPoint safety slide to outline how many people got injured vs the previous quarters/years. They reviewed how much money it cost them in lost profits and productivity.

I doubt they even used my name. Instead I am sure what happened to me was represented as an uptick on some graph or chart.

The human element is getting more and more lost in a lot of places .

They won't send another driver to take you to the nearest hotel for the 10 hour reset? You better be joking

I'm on my 30 min break now at the yard, sitting in the tractor and road driver comes to me and says that this is his tractor and he needs to take it for a road run. At 3pm city dispatch said that I could take tractor.... I still have 1 more swap to make, but before I can go anywhere I need to find another tractor. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like working for Team Green.. I mean OD. Everyday is a new adventure:mad:

Yesterday 2 managers from Long Island came to our hub and talked about the teamwork and how important that is in order succed. You can't make this up. The honeymoon phase with this place is over for me
