I think the Gold bulldog means the truck has an original Mack engine and the Silver bulldog means the engine is something other than an original Mack engine. Pretty sure the color has something to do with the engine.

 

I have to disagree. The Pinnacle that I drove had a Mack engine and trans. The dog on the hood was chrome.

Why are bulldogs emblems on mack trucks silver and gold?
A Mack truck with a gold bulldog indicates the entire truck is made solely of Mack components. Trucks with another manufacturer's transmission, engine, rear axles or suspension are given the silver emblem.
Other manufacturers parts tend to mean Volvo parts since we produce both kinds of engines and vehicles.
You can have any single bolt not "Mack Certified" to not get a golden bulldog.
We don't manufacture everything here. For example where I'm at we started making axel's recently, we make 3 different types, and only one is a red MACK axel. The bolts/wiring harnesses are obviously not made by MACK, only MACK approved/certified. When the engines roll down the line you could get a mack engine with a VOLVO turbo, it really depends on what is ordered.
