I had two pickup trucks following me one night years back. The had cb radios, it was kind of funny because every time they talked they finished off with 'over'. Anyway, that was their stated reason for not passing me. I don't understand that to be honest, it's not like a deer sits on the side of the road and times their crossing right before the big truck arrives. Just as likely to run out behind me I would imagine.

I spend a lot of time on two lane roads at night, with little traffic. It's not unusual to have someone staying far behind me until more headlights appear in the mirror. At that point they suddenly want to get close to me. Never understood that one, don't follow the truck too close until the possibility of being sandwiched presents itself. lol

It's the primate brain telling them to group up when approached by someone new. We're socially defensive animals. I'd guess that the same behavior instinct is what causes people to group up in lumps of vehicles on the interstate. That million-year-old monkey instinct tells us to group up for safety.

Two actually. One bounced off the side, did no damage and I seen him in the mirror get up and run off.

The other cost me a grill. :)

I've seen more than one run out after going by but the thing I don't get is following a big truck and reducing your ability to see them sooner.

No ####! They stand there and munch grass and twitch their ears while several vehicles go past and you approach from 1/2 mile away... Then... BAM!!! They leap from the gravel shoulder to the center of your lane in a split second to land exactly 8 feet infront of your grill. At that moment I calmly let off the throttle and begin to pull over, praying my radiator is still intact. And fondly remembering my old W900L with full brush guard, wishing I still had it instead of this Volvo.

I whacked one on my Harley once. I have no more love for Bambi. None whatsoever.

Ouch!... How did you, the bike, and the deer all fair in that collision?

I have never hit a deer in any vehicle, but owls are another matter.

I have been hit by THREE owls in the last ten years, one in my pickup a few years ago, and two while driving semis. One of them #### near came through the windshield of my current truck. The other two bounced off the roof.

Yes, that's three hoot and run accidents in just a few years.
