cheaper to hire an idiot an put a camera in his face than to pay a decent wage and actually have some respect for your employees.

This is for the company's benefit. Eventually, when driver facing cams are industry wide, they will use this to shift liability to the driver. Do you really want a lawyer picking apart your every move leading up to an accident?
"Sir, I see right before the accident you scratched your ear."
"Yes, I did."
"So, you didn't have both hands on the wheel, is that correct?"DSK333, WildTiger1990, Lepton1 and 3 others Thank this. -

1390 RPM for 71 mph.
I can only imagine the potential for 85 mph in Texas what with the gearing to 1550 or so RPM. The fuel mileage would be pretty good as well.
I resent the shoveled BS by the creators of the video. Long isolated roads etc. HA. Such fraidy cats. I LOVE long isolated roads. US 287 comes to mind near Kit Carson as a personal favorite. So what if once in a while you have to come off road to get a sleepy or idiot idiot life saved from head on to you.
Oklahoma comes to mind as well. Idabel would be one, At night the steers weigh 5000 pounds and have the hides the exact color of the black top pavement in the dark. You will never see them. But the car you keep in front of you will. Your job is not only leave enough room (9 seconds) to STOP in time when THEY hit the steer, but also give a hand because chances are they going to need some help.
I will resist a driver facing cam. The only video that sticks in my memory from TTR's showing of Cam, is a total and world ending crash endured by a stupid trucker who just would NOT let go of his cell phone in one hand while the trailer came apart in his back window then the tractor started to come apart as well. But let the cell phone go? oh no. We can't allow that.
Maybe reduce the cell to a size of a chip small enough to implant into people. They can ring their own calls internally in the body. Keeps the hands free.
Trust me when I say I keep a relatively clean truck tractor inside. But you DO NOT want to see me driving one of those. I am horrible what with the coffee drinking, the occasional smoke and other things that come into play. The big pizza box from Sbarro on the T'pike in PA comes to mind. You can run a whole day on S'barro. I bet no dispatcher wants to see 12 hours of me chomping pizza. As small as I am. It's amazing how much food I can put away.
Even if they did have a camera in there, it will be a go pro and it will be mine. Not theirs. I'll upload the constant stream of videos from idiots who insist on crossing over into my lane for either a drunken smash or a deliberate insurance scam. We'll see how excellent those tires and ABS really is when I put it to work. (The company might not like that... because I can sometimes take a big truck into a little slide if I had to.. and have...)
I can rant and rave like a tired old worn out Geezer fighting off the LPN's bed tray with the cane. clack clack clack. So tiresome. I need a nap now. zzzzzzlaaylor Thanks this. -

And probably a lost week to 10 days babysitting that load (Stick it into a drop yard, tell the shipper or receiver they want the load, they send a day cab to get it.) Fight over the money later.
I have strongly felt that what the Shippers and recievers have been demanding like a bunch of spoiled children and then turn around and abuse the driver, his truck (Free storage... not to mention free cooling actually... one time FFE had us maintain a precool for three days at Salinas CA Americold. 100 gallons at 2.50 poof. GONE. 250 dollars plus tax to refill. Another 600 to 700 more to fill the tractor, erasing whatever profit after we are paid for a piddling 1200 mile run. It's been almost 20 years and we are STILL angry over that total botched loading. What a waste all around. Some BS emergency indeed. HA. Never again. They can message us at the truckstop locally when ready. Not before.againstthewind Thanks this. -
The video is pure mind control. For all we know this was a closed set professionally produced video.
Doesn't matter, these cameras are coming whether we like it or not. Insurance companies and regulators will be pushing for it. The agenda is to get rid of the traditional $100k driver and use driverless tech that goes 24 hours a day and recovers that $100k a year back to the MAN's pocket.bottomdumpin, Ffx95, Bean Jr. and 1 other person Thank this. -
In Razorback Concrete ready mix days we had a contractor take his chevy 1500 pickup truck with two workers with him in it jump into my lane against me head on on the old 367 south towards Ward-Austin on the old Bayou Run where it collects levees and a bunch of water to protect the dual main railroad plus two freeways and the west edge of one rather major town in White County.
I held my ground. No cameras in those days yet. Had one on the cell but not time to fool with a head on smash coming. So I stuck to my gear, added some power and waited to see what will come of the situation. They bounced back in their lane.
I would have every right to turn that mixer around, follow them back to the ready mix plant and raise hell for what they think is fun and games with me. I am not a idiot or a fool to be played with. It's not my first rodeo. Im pretty confident that should they do smash me head on, those three will die. I will have bad injury but insurance and all will take care of all that in time. If they were willing to die together in a POS pickup truck on the job trying to run me off the road into a bayou which will GET me killed no. There is no gain.
I made the decision the next stupid cement contractor and his crew wants to play those kinds of games locally in this county will hear it from me. I am not a play thing. If they want that concrete, they can drive the #### truck themselves and pour it themselves. I don't need to be providing customer service to such idiots who obviously place no value to my life and their load. And I will not.
That kind of fun and games around here that passes for BS trying to scare me or some other poor trucker who has not yet been in a million head ons will get someone or several someones killed. All the formal safety meetings don't mean a #### thing when contractors or outsiders get stupid around here (And they do even to this day) We endured a two hour meeting every monday morning. Same old regurgitated content.
I love safety as the next driver. But when others do not and make a game of it, then I don't value prison or electric chair as a valid result of their own stupidity and die for it under my wheels. And so the cameras are necessary. I'll provide it with my own money and the video in my own defense when necessary. The company can focus on more important things such as finding more professional contractors. -
Am I missing something? Pretty obvious to see what happened just from the forward facing camera.
shogun, tucker, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
"Look, if you are doing everything exactly perfect 100% of 11 hours per day, you have nothing to fear from our driver facing cameras!" -
