To idle or not to idle...that is the question...

Like right now, I'm parked next to two trucks who are not idling...the tempurature is perfect outside...so out of courtesy...I turned my engine off...since I'm the last to pull in...

I prefer not to idle when i can...after hearing gears grind and high rpm all day long...I need quiet time...time to forget I'm in a truck...

    I like comfortable.

If that means idle then that means idle.

    That's my assessment of it.

    If I'm hot...it runs. If I'm cold...it runs.

If I'm parked between 2 reefer units using a 1950's model chainsaw engine to power their units....I run the truck :biggrin_25525:

If it's nice don't idle unless you need to charge your batteries, if it's hot or cold, idle.

Ok, your '1950's chainsaw refer' reference was funny...we've all been there....

I had one park next to me that sounded like a WW2 P-52 mustang engine...I mean this thing was loud...

I also was parked by a truck that had somekind of generator on it, so that they wouldnt have to idle...but the generator sounded like a jet turbine engine...If you've ever stood behind a jet turbine engine at the air-port...when a older 727 jet takes off...that's what it sounded like....

Or like those jet drag cars....how could they sleep?

    I was a good 200 feet away and couldn't...

i am going to be comfortable.if i am somewhere it is quiet i will sometimes.if there is noise i want my truck running to drown it out.the constant of it lets me sleep.

Usually cut the reefer off whenever other trucks are around. When the weather permits I park as far away as I can,and usually in the opposite direction, roll down the windows, cut the truck off and sleep...
Try to always respect other drivers by watching noise and lights.

I'm not sure I follow this, because the only time my reefer runs is when it has to ... and if it has to, it's going to run, regardless of where.

A week ago sitting in the truck stop for the night. At least 10 spaces between me and another truck on either side. Up pulls a truck with a refer and parks right next to me. Cycled on and off all night. The temp was set at 50 deg and it was 10 out. So needless to say it started and stopped alot. My APU didn't even cycle that much.:biggrin_2552::biggrin_25518::biggrin_2554:
