It's only on Saturday a year, LOL. Next year burn flex time on Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving week like I did, LOL.

Lipari has to work every Saturday of every holiday week, 6 a year. That sucked

I worked for a place like that for a while. I'd schedule vac time, and the boss man would cry about how he really needed me, or wasn't able to find a replacement for that day. He'd guilt me into working and remind me the company paid unused vacation days at the end of the year. So I'd give in and be a good corporate soldier.

At the end of the year, I had 56 hours of vacation time left. They only paid me for 30 hours. Next time I scheduled a day off I took it, and when the call came sobbing a out how he really needed me to work I told him to pound sand.

We are not allowed to cash out vacation. And it caps based on years of service. The general statement from on high is,

    You earned it. Take it.

Ya know something else, my drivers when planning vacation say stuff like "if its bad give me a call, im not doing anything important." I actually have to tell them, "I'm not calling you! Its your vacation!"

We have a hell of a drivers pool. Proud to have them in my fleet.

Ive quit a few places because of that BS. Give me vacation time, but won't let me schedule it.

My new company seems pretty reasonable. I have no time as i havent been here a year, but I wanted a three day weekend and they gave me one. I also am closing on my new house Wednesday, and they told me I'm fine to skip work and handle my issues.

All this being said, I don't call out of work. So I quit my last job because they wouldn't give me a three day weekend when I probably missed only two days in the past two year and it was due to an abscessed tooth. Which I don't care anything in my mouth I'm seeing a doc/dentist the next day.

You try and be professional tell the boss man "hey I want a friday off", and he'll say no so then you just have to be an ### and call off. I wish more people in managerial roles would realize this.

I don't want my flex to roll over. Never see it again if it does.

I don't think I could burn it if I wanted to, it would be all short notice they would just deny the request and I would just get bumped out by the senior guys anyhow, I can't win or compete LOL!

I did burn about a week of vacation this year. That's pretty good, last year I had 4 days off for the entire year.

The year before that I had 3 weeks off.

The year before that I had one day off and it was a mercy day given to me by management. Yeah 2015 I had no days off I worked March 2015-March-2016 I worked every calendar day.

Now to be fair in 2016 and 2017 when the chain unit almost disintegrated into nothing and was on the brink of collapse and the volume unit was also failing I spent 3 weeks at the warehouse just doing volume work mainly runs to Cleveland and Buffalo, New York. I also spent a week in Maryland at the Aberdeen warehouse in 2016 mostly going with that one kid (he probably doesn't even work there any more.) going to West Chester County, we were on the way far outskirts of Philadelphia more Bridgeport, PA area and King of Prussia, PA. I know this because we went to the King of Prussia, PA mall. I said to my self thank god I was with someone who knew where to park and where to go at that mall. If I had to go to King of Prussia, PA mall on my own as a swing driver it would have taken me an hour to figure out where to park what halls to go down it would have been a major project.

I will say this our guys are pretty good, if it's a serious thing, illness, funeral or general family issues or actual legit thing, they don't generally say no. When my second cousin killed himself last year around this time, I had to take that Thursday off for the funeral and management didn't even bat an eye they said will handle it.

If I said I have a medical thing scheduled dentist or what ever they don't really argue about it, if it's legit they don't really say no or ask questions. We had a guy last year his mother died and he needed a few days off to make arrangements and management was real understanding and said hey take all the time you need it's fine.

Last year or year before last my dads car got totaled and we had to go down to Kentucky to get him a new car and I had to take that Monday off and when I told management what happened they said that's fine do what you gotta do.

    About the same here.

With my current company, if I need time off, I get it. I get a week and one additional day for every year of service. SO, this year I get 1 week and 7 days.
I have however, accumulated almost a month and a half of vacation time. Because they failed to monitor how much we were rolling over.
So as of now I still have nearly 108 hours of time this close to the end of the year.

    With my last employer?
Well only three of us got any vacation time. Me and the two bosses, everyone else got to work or not get paid for any missed time.
And I was there for 4 years before I even got one week of time. And that was all I got, period. Regardless of years of service, (8 total, when I finally had enough and quit).
1 week every year, use it or lose it. No rollover, and no payout at the end of the year.
Now we did have company paid health insurance (employees paid nothing, literally). It REALLY sucked.
Employer paid retirement, we were not able to contribute anything (we didn't get paid enough to begin with).

    Mike2633 Thanks this.
